Daniel Drew Martin
Daniel Drew Martin is an American Awakened and cautious expedition leader who enters Randalph's Korean dungeon with a small team. His low-rated Insight and Second Sense combine into unusually reliable danger perception, allowing him to recognize Randalph's concealed strength. He submits in an attempt to save his remaining party but is immediately beheaded. Later references to a demon called Duke Martin never identify that character as Daniel Drew Martin and are not treated here as the same person.
Biography
A leader who recognized the hidden threat
Daniel enters the dungeon seeking valuable treasure, but the death of a teammate on the second floor makes him resist splitting his remaining group away from the larger expedition. His experience with dangerous gargoyles and his responsibility as leader outweigh the prospect of monopolizing rewards. When Randalph begins testing the survivors, Daniel's linked senses reveal a danger the others cannot perceive. He kneels and asks for mercy, hoping the warning and submission will save his team, but Randalph chooses him first and beheads him before the ten-minute survival game begins. (Chapters 21–24)
Distinction from Duke Martin
Much later, the narrative introduces a demon repeatedly called Duke Martin, a foresight user in Pandemonium's faction. The cited passages give that demon no first name, no human past, and no connection to the already beheaded expedition leader; they also show Duke Martin dying separately in Chapter 185. Shared use of “Martin” is therefore insufficient evidence of identity. Daniel's confirmed history ends with his Chapter 24 death, and no supplied passage establishes resurrection, transformation, or continuity between the two figures. (Chapters 178–190)
Appearance and personality
Daniel is identified as an American man, but the supplied evidence gives no specific hair, eye, build, clothing, or lasting equipment description. He is practical and protective toward his teammates, suppressing personal dislike of the larger Chinese group because staying with them improves survival. His caution is not cowardice: once he recognizes Randalph's overwhelming danger, he chooses surrender as the only remaining way to protect others rather than pretending the group can win. (Chapters 21–24)
Abilities and powers
Daniel's system occupation is Hero (Guarder). Insight and Second Sense are both Extra Normal skills, but their combination produces a synergy that lets him perceive Randalph's concealed power and recognize a fatal threat before the rest of the expedition. His instincts also tell him when a teammate dies and help him calmly assess unfamiliar creatures and tactical risk. These abilities provide information, not the strength to change the outcome: Daniel's total attributes and combat power remain far below Randalph's, and perception cannot prevent his immediate beheading. (Chapters 21–24)
The later Duke Martin demonstrates Time Axis, Illusion Technique, and foresight, but no evidence transfers those skills to Daniel. They are excluded from Daniel's ability set because the corpus never establishes that the two Martins are one person. (Chapters 179–185)
Relationships
- Randalph Brigsiel: Daniel alone recognizes Randalph's hidden danger and submits, but Randalph beheads him to begin the survival test.
- American expedition team: Daniel leads five people into the dungeon and makes conservative choices after losing one member. His final surrender is motivated by the remaining team's survival.
- Duke Martin: A later demon shares his surname but has no established biographical connection to Daniel; the evidence records separate deaths for the two.
Items
No personal item is confirmed. Daniel enters the dungeon hoping to find valuable treasure such as a spatial-jump scroll, but the cited evidence does not show him acquiring or owning one.
