Scorpion’s Bite
Scorpion’s Bite is a quadruped bandolier and weapon mount that lets Donut carry, inventory-load, and fire ranged weapons too large for an ordinary cat body. Its principal role is mounting Katia's repeating crossbow for precision use of scarce specialized bolts.
History
Apothecary gift and crossbow platform
Donut receives Scorpion’s Bite from a Gold Benefactor Box sent by the Apothecary. She reveals it during the operation against Huanxin Jinx, where the mount forms on her back and attaches the Enchanted Repeating Crossbow of the Scavenger Mother of Mothers. Although the crossbow is larger than Donut, she supports the combined weight and fires a bolt loaded by Mordecai through the mount to kill Huanxin. (Chapter 391)
The mount later becomes part of the tenth-floor race plan. It forms together with the crossbow, automatically seats a glowing Danforth bolt, and gives Donut a shot over other vehicles at Rapture. The coalition still considers exposure and line of fire: they keep Donut inside the truck instead of placing her on the roof as an obvious target. Scorpion's Bite solves physical handling and loading, not the tactical risk of being a visible shooter. (Chapter 412)
Anti-deity shot
In the eleventh-floor arena, Donut deploys the mount with the crossbow already cocked and loads Katia's Bolt of Ophiotaurus. Her shot enters Emberus's eye and removes his invulnerability for fifteen seconds, while a second specialized bolt restrains him. The successful combination is the mount's latest explicit use and demonstrates why a mechanically simple, nonmagical accessory is strategically important. (Chapter 492)
Abilities and properties
- It is explicitly classified as a nonmagical bandolier accessory designed as a quadruped weapon mount. The corpus does not separately test it inside an anti-magic field, and mounted weapons or ammunition retain their own classifications and rules. (Chapter 391)
- It allows multiple ranged weapons to be mounted and permits firing and loading through inventory action. The corpus demonstrates one mounted crossbow at a time and does not establish the maximum number or weight. (Chapter 391)
- It lets Donut carry Katia's crossbow even though the weapon is larger than her body. The mount does not supply the crossbow's damage; output still comes from the weapon, ammunition, wielder, and female-party scaling. (Chapter 391)
- Specialized bolts can load directly into the mounted crossbow, enabling Danforth and Ophiotaurus shots without ordinary hands. Scarcity, recovery, aim, and line-of-fire limits still apply. (Chapters 412 and 492)
