Mongo’s Magical Fang Caps

Mongo’s Magical Fang Caps are a collection of enchanted tooth coverings installed on Mongo by Donut and Carl. Different pairs add supernatural damage, status effects, and physical bonuses, gradually turning Mongo’s bite into a configurable magical weapon.

History

First fang caps

Donut receives the first pair, the Enchanted Fang Caps of the Expectorating Tizheruk, in a Platinum Quest Box. Because the caps do not suit her own fighting style but can be transferred to a pet, Mordecai recommends Mongo as the wearer. His species can equip as many as six pairs, making the prize the beginning of a modular equipment set rather than a single replacement weapon. (Chapter 61)

The equipped caps immediately make Mongo’s teeth spark with electricity. They also let him bite ghost-class Shadow Leaks and other incorporeal targets that ordinary physical teeth could not reliably damage. The capability remains dependent on Mongo reaching and biting the target, so it does not solve his lack of ranged offense or the need to control his charge. (Chapters 65, 69–70, and 231)

Additional pairs

A later Platinum Quest Box supplies two more caps. The prior pair is described as increasing damage and sometimes inflicting poison or paralysis, although those debuffs occur infrequently and Mongo’s bite often kills the victim before they matter. The new pair instead adds fifteen percent movement speed and fifteen percent strength. Together the pairs broaden both the bite’s effects and Mongo’s ability to close distance. (Chapter 122)

The corpus later compares another mount’s enchanted tooth cap with Mongo’s collection, confirming that the caps remain a recognized part of his equipment. It does not provide a complete late-stage inventory of every pair or say which individual caps survive every transition, so only the demonstrated effects can be assigned with confidence. (Chapter 368)

Abilities and properties

  • Mongo’s species can equip up to six pairs of tooth caps, and eligible caps can be transferred from a crawler to a pet. (Chapter 61)
  • The first named pair produces electrical magical damage and enables Mongo to harm incorporeal enemies. (Chapters 61, 65, and 69–70)
  • One demonstrated set increases bite damage and can occasionally inflict poison or paralysis. (Chapter 122)
  • A later pair adds fifteen percent movement speed and fifteen percent strength. (Chapter 122)
  • The caps enhance Mongo’s existing bite; they require physical contact and do not give him an independent ranged attack. (Chapters 69–70 and 231)
