Tipid

Tipid is a Crest former crawler, Poisoner, and author of the fourth edition of the Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook. Brain damage and traumatic memories follow him after his release, but he returns to the Earth crawl as an experienced Princess Posse colonel. (Chapters 278, 308, 329)

Biography

The Eighth Floor and Bedlam

Tipid first appears through a Cookbook note haunted by the decision that ended his crawl: he used a one-person key to save himself and left Horatio behind. His later account explains that he reached level 96, took a deal at the beginning of the twelfth floor, served as a game guide and Poisoner Guild instructor, and spent his pension repairing brain damage before retiring. The guilt remains unresolved even after his contract ends. (Chapters 278, 308)

Faction Wars at Larracos

Tipid returns as a Princess Posse colonel and contributes knowledge about Residuals, controlled AI research, and faction strategy. He works with Rosetta on plans that culminate in Zerzura carrying Larracos and Shanty Town to the twelfth floor. Combat shocks aggravate his old injuries, but he continues supporting the operation rather than withdrawing from the war. (Chapters 308, 329, 350, 385–390)

The Parade of Horribles

On the eleventh floor, Tipid's damaged memory has erased even his friendship with Justice, and he spends much of his downtime sleeping. He nevertheless joins the final mobilization. The concluding crash costs him both legs and leaves him badly hurt, repeating the bodily cost of his earlier service while the others move to treat him. (Chapters 401–402, 473, 494)

Appearance and personality

Tipid is a Crest with a humanoid build and a body carrying persistent neurological damage from his crawl. His hands shake during flashbacks, and illusion trauma can make the present feel unreal. He is analytical and experienced, but self-preservation remains a source of shame rather than pride; later memory loss and exhaustion make him quiet and withdrawn. (Chapters 278, 308, 385, 401)

Skills, class, and abilities

As a level-96 Poisoner and former guild instructor, Tipid has deep knowledge of toxins, dungeon systems, and survival. His Cookbook authorship and intelligence work make information his clearest demonstrated contribution in the current story. The corpus does not show a complete spell list or later level sequence, and his brain lesions, unreliable memory, and physical injuries sharply limit what he can do outside a stabilized dungeon environment. (Chapters 278, 308, 329)

Relationships

  • Horatio: Tipid abandons Horatio when their key can save only one person. The decision secures his exit but defines his continuing guilt. (Chapters 278, 308)
  • Rosetta: Rosetta works beside him on intelligence and the plan to move Larracos; she later reports and responds to his injuries. (Chapters 329, 350, 390, 494)
  • Justice Light: Justice was once Tipid's friend, but Tipid no longer remembers him by the eleventh floor. (Chapter 402)

Items

Tipid has no planned inventory-item links. The jeweled key that saved him was briefly his by contract, but he rejects it after release because it embodies Horatio's death; its later custody is not stated. (Chapter 308)
