The Sledge

The Sledge is a tuxedoed rock creature assigned as Donut's Desperado Club bodyguard. He spends his own money to improve her protection, later joins the Princess Posse, and survives long enough to transfer with Larracos to the twelfth floor. (Chapters 82, 88, 147, 390)

Biography

The Circus and the Iron Tangle

The Sledge and Bomo begin as level-35 cretin guards following Carl and Donut through the Desperado Club. Sledge purchases and casts a magical-protection spell with his own money specifically to protect Donut, transforming a paid assignment into personal loyalty. (Chapters 82, 88, 93)

The Gate of the Feral Gods

Sledge remains beside Donut during increasingly dangerous floor transitions and club visits, even when little direct fighting is required. His steady presence gives her a familiar protector while the group plans around crises too large for a bodyguard to solve alone. (Chapters 116, 142)

The Hunting Grounds and the Masquerade

Carl recruits Sledge, Bomo, and two other cretins into the party but deliberately keeps the two most valuable guards away from the riskiest fights. Sledge accepts the limitation with disappointment, guards the saferoom, learns Earth games, and uses precise countdown messages during the Masquerade evacuation. Protecting the “little ones” remains his priority when mantises surround the castle. (Chapters 147, 206, 215–217)

Faction Wars at Larracos

Sledge contributes missile warnings, scouting, and guard work, and his love of Grand Theft Auto inspires his preferred name “Los Santos” for the settlement. At the end of the war he transfers with Larracos. His farewell to Donut is affectionate and restrained: he tells her she no longer needs a bodyguard, while she insists she always will. (Chapters 311, 366, 390)

Appearance and personality

Sledge is a seven-foot-tall cretin made of rock and dressed in a tuxedo. His speech is sparse and rumbling, but he is gentle with Donut, takes pride in protective work, and develops an enthusiastic interest in Earth video games. (Chapters 82, 88, 206, 390)

Skills, class, and abilities

Sledge has the natural durability and strength of a large rock creature. His purchased Magic Protect spell shields allies from magical attacks, complementing Bomo's physical shield. He can communicate accurate countdowns and battlefield warnings, but Carl treats him as too valuable to expose unnecessarily; no later level progression is given. (Chapters 88, 147, 217, 366)

Relationships

  • Donut: Sledge buys protection magic for Donut, carries her, and treats guarding her as a personal duty. Their farewell confirms mutual affection. (Chapters 88, 116, 390)
  • Bomo: Bomo is his fellow cretin guard, and their magical and physical protections are designed to work together. (Chapters 82, 93, 147)
  • Carl: Carl recruits Sledge and assigns him to protect the saferoom and vulnerable allies instead of wasting him in open battle. (Chapters 147, 215)

Items

The Sledge has no planned inventory-item links. His tuxedo is standard presentation, while Magic Protect is a purchased spell rather than a carried artifact. (Chapters 82, 88)
