Mistress Tiatha
Mistress Tiatha is a half-elf former crawler who serves as Elle McGib's game guide and manager. Habitually drunk but deeply experienced, she interprets dungeon precedent, supports alliance logistics, and develops practical hacks that extend other characters' effects. (Chapters 22, 214–491)
Biography
The Collapse and the First Floors
Tiatha initially guides the Meadow Lark group, teaching them that early borough and city bosses usually guard stairwells. Her tutorial role makes her one of the first institutional sources the vulnerable residents can consult, although the group still loses most of its mobile members while searching for alternate routes. (Chapter 22)
The Hunting Grounds and the Masquerade
By the sixth floor she is identified as Elle's manager and supplies specialized knowledge about charm thresholds, including the large charisma advantage needed to influence a province boss. Her claim that she has charmed a boss before supports the party's otherwise improbable Ferdinand plan, showing that her experience is useful even when Mordecai initially doubts the tactic. (Chapter 214)
The Eighth Floor and Bedlam
Tiatha helps explain why Prepotente's destruction of the seventh floor is an engineering and political failure rather than an unprecedented impossibility. When the Dungeon AI's early escape becomes evident, she predicts that the crisis normally associated with Ascendancy or a nearly empty crawl will bring a failsafe confrontation. Her grim institutional knowledge is paired with heavy drinking and cynicism about whether former crawlers ever receive the citizenship they are promised. (Chapters 223, 269)
Faction Wars at Larracos
During Faction Wars she works beside Mordecai and Rosetta on crafting, wiring, and vehicle-upgrade logistics. Her wire hack extends Li Na's normally touch-range aura across roughly twenty meters, turning a personal effect into an area defense. She also helps organize the systematic theft of vehicle upgrades from deal-takers, moving from advisor to hands-on engineer for the war effort. (Chapters 309, 342, 353)
The Parade of Horribles
Tiatha continues supporting the guild with equipment and practical expertise. During the Nine-Tier Attack, game guides appear immune, allowing her to heal Bucket Boy even though the attack penetrates safe rooms. At the latest point she remains alive and working with the alliance; the corpus shows no exit from Elle's service or new formal class state. (Chapters 456, 473, 491)
Appearance and personality
Tiatha is a half-elf woman described as scruffy and frequently drunk, often holding or searching for another bottle. Her eyes turn wet when she discusses how systems mistreat released crawlers, exposing fear beneath her sardonic manner. She is pessimistic, profane, and dismissive of official promises, yet consistently applies her knowledge to protect others. (Chapters 269, 309, 353)
Skills, class, and abilities
Game-guide knowledge and healing
As a former crawler and manager, Tiatha understands stairwell patterns, charm mathematics, engineering failures, AI behavior, citizenship rules, and unusual precedents. She can also heal Bucket Boy after a Nine-Tier effect reaches the saferoom. The corpus does not name the healing skill or establish that she can cure every attack; her immunity appears attached to game-guide status and does not automatically extend to others. (Chapters 22, 214, 223, 491)
Wiring and engineering support
Tiatha constructs a wire network that carries Li Na's contact aura across an approximately twenty-meter area and assists with vehicle upgrade extraction. The aura itself remains Li Na's power; Tiatha supplies the distribution hack. Its demonstrated use requires prepared wire and a fixed setup, so it is not evidence that she can freely grant ranged auras in any environment. (Chapters 342, 353, 473)
Relationships
- Elle McGib: Tiatha is Elle's manager and source of off-field knowledge, helping translate high-level experience into workable plans. (Chapters 214, 269)
- Mordecai: They collaborate on explaining system events, crafting, healing, and engineering work. (Chapters 223, 309, 342, 491)
- Li Na: Tiatha's wiring materially expands Li Na's aura during Faction Wars, while the power remains Li Na's. (Chapters 342, 353)
Items
No personal item link is assigned to Mistress Tiatha in the current manifest. She maintains a collection of jewelry from previous crawlers and uses large quantities of wire, but no individual artifact is assigned to her public inventory. (Chapters 342, 456)
