Jamal
Jamal is a land-mobile hammerhead-shark NPC who joins the Princess Posse's field force. Repeated destruction of his mechanical legs becomes a running frustration, but he continues volunteering for guard and assault work through the final eleventh-floor battle. (Chapters 313, 385–391, 492–494)
Biography
Faction Wars at Larracos
Jamal accompanies Carl's mobile force as an enthusiastic fighter and later leads vulnerable allies toward a saferoom when the battlefield fractures. His spider-like legs let him function on land, but a No Disassemble effect destroys one set; even while reduced to flopping movement, he keeps pace and later celebrates receiving a final replacement set. He chooses to remain with the Princess Posse rather than depart after Zerzura. (Chapters 313, 374, 385–391)
The Parade of Horribles
On the eleventh floor, Jamal guards the garage, discusses his prosthetics with the group's specialists, and returns to combat with a flamethrower. He leaps through the arena and crushes monsters after his vehicle is wrecked. The final crash destroys his legs yet again, but he is alive and gathering the pieces when Carl orders the survivors back to safety. (Chapters 417, 465, 492, 494)
Appearance and personality
Jamal has the head and body of a hammerhead shark supported on replaceable, multi-jointed spider legs. He refers to himself in the third person, is excitable and sociable, and takes pride in each new set of legs. His complaints are theatrical, but his repeated return to duty shows resilience rather than cowardice. (Chapters 313, 385–391)
Skills, class, and abilities
Mechanical legs give Jamal fast land movement, jumping power, and the ability to fight despite an aquatic body plan. He later uses a flamethrower and can break enemies beneath his weight. The legs are a serious weak point: anti-machine effects, explosions, and crashes repeatedly destroy them, leaving him mobile only by flopping until repairs or replacements arrive. (Chapters 385–386, 492–494)
Relationships
- Carl: Carl deploys Jamal as a guard and entrusts him with protecting other survivors during retreats. (Chapters 374, 419)
- Rend and Bigs: Jamal frequently moves with the two nonhuman companions and helps keep them safe when the main fighters split away. (Chapters 374–375)
- Samantha: Samantha rides on Jamal's head during the final arena battle, relying on his mobility and firepower. (Chapter 492)
Items
Jamal has no planned inventory-item links. His successive mechanical leg sets and flamethrower are important equipment, but their individual names and latest intact custody are not established; the final leg set is smashed in Chapter 494.
