Eris
Eris is the goddess of chaos, a divine ally whose information and unpredictable presence effects assist the crawlers while making every encounter with her hazardous.
Biography
Faction Wars at Larracos
Carl first gains formal recognition as a friend of Eris's church, then encounters the goddess amid the ninth-floor divine conflict. Eris disables a Witness effect, allowing trapped combatants to wake, and gives Carl intelligence about artifacts, Justice Light, and the wider threat. Her intervention helps the coalition act, but also introduces chaos into a battlefield already crowded with gods, so Carl shares her warnings while treating the plan built from them as dangerous. (Chapters 360, 365, and 368–383)
The Parade of Horribles
Eris enters the tenth-floor realm and freezes the scene as Carl's divine patch activates. Her insistence that an escape route exists helps keep Carl engaged with a risky Pineapple Cabaret plan, though he continues to verify every claim. In the final arena her proximity triggers a new random chaos effect that swaps nearby crawlers' inventories, confirming that she remains active and that her effects change from encounter to encounter. (Chapters 429–433, 450, 462, and 493)
Appearance and personality
The supplied chapters do not provide a stable physical portrait of Eris; her arrival is often recognized through deity notifications and environmental effects rather than a clear body. She is direct, disruptive, and willing to help through dangerous information, fitting her association with chaos without proving that every chaotic event is intentional. (Chapters 368–383, 429–433, and 493)
Skills, class, and abilities
Eris can exert divine presence, disable or alter magic such as the Witness spell, and trigger temporary chaos effects on nearby crawlers. The Scavenger's Daughter responds to her presence with power, while the exact temporary effect changes each time; the eleventh-floor instance swaps inventories between nearest crawlers. These effects are broad but not reliably beneficial, and neither Carl nor Eris is shown selecting the random result. Her complete divine level and spell list remain undisclosed. (Chapters 374, 429–433, and 493)
Relationships
- Carl: Eris supplies him with warnings and possible routes forward, but her nature forces him to treat her help as hazardous and provisional. (Chapters 368–383 and 429–433)
- Justice Light: Her information contributes to the attempt to secure an artifact for his revenge and escape plan. (Chapters 379–383)
- Emberus and Hellik: Eris belongs to their divine sibling group, though the family relationships do not make their goals identical. (Chapters 429–433)
