Astrid

Astrid is the Desperado Club's Level 125 assistant manager and a Bloodlust Sprite specializing in cardiovascular magic. Her hidden family connection to the Guild of Suffering places her at the center of the quest intended to keep Donut and Katia from being forced to fight each other. (Chapters 83, 202–255)

Biography

The Circus and the Iron Tangle

Astrid first intervenes as club management after paid security fails Donut. She refunds the escort fee and promises complimentary protection, presenting herself as a stern administrator who takes the club's contractual obligations seriously even while disclaiming general safety. Her authority over the crocodilian guards and capacity to incapacitate Carl with cardiovascular magic establish why later plans treat a direct confrontation as nearly impossible. (Chapter 83)

The Hunting Grounds and the Masquerade

The Guild of Suffering orders Carl and Katia to kill Astrid and deliver her body, identifying her simultaneously as the employment agency's owner and the club's assistant manager. They investigate her routes, office, response time, and Cosmic Sense, eventually using Samantha and a wider emergency to draw her into an ambush. Astrid detects enough danger to abandon the expected secret passage, disrupting their trap before the club itself descends into chaos. (Chapters 202–253)

Inside the breached club, Astrid warns Carl to leave, shields him, and kills a hostile troll by boiling its blood. Her protection makes the assassination morally worse but does not remove its necessity for Carl and Katia. Carl tears off her wings to break her spell, and the summoned creatures maim and kill her; her final request is that someone save her children. Katia secures the body for the quest, preserving Donut and Katia's chance to avoid fighting one another at the cost of Astrid's life. (Chapters 254–255)

The Eighth Floor and Bedlam

Later testimony reveals that Astrid, Hamed, Damascus Steel, and Anaconda are a long-trapped family rather than ordinary generated NPCs. She used her club position and employment-agency control to place her sons in the Penis Parade, where they could remain under her protection. This revelation recasts her last words and her employment network as a mother's long effort to keep her children safe. (Chapters 307, 311)

Faction Wars at Larracos

Astrid remains dead, while Hamed assumes control of the Desperado Club and her sons hunt the father who ordered her death. Her absence therefore changes the club's leadership and fractures the family she had spent years sheltering. (Chapter 307)

Appearance and personality

Astrid is a tiny flying fairy or sprite whose deep, serious voice contrasts with her scale. She works and sleeps in a hollowed tree space accessible through a high, narrow opening and projects severe managerial authority over much larger guards. Although quick to punish breaches and openly dislikes Carl, she honors a security failure, warns him during the Nothing breach, and moves to shield him; her last concern is for her children. (Chapters 83, 248, 254–255)

Skills, class, and abilities

Bloodlust Sprite cardiovascular magic

Astrid is Level 125 and described as adept in cardiovascular magic. She can make Carl's blood boil without immediately killing him and later kills a troll by boiling its blood until its eyes burst. The magic is rapid and potentially lethal, but it is not universal: one summoned crow resists or ignores her spell, and tearing off her wings interrupts the effect holding Katia. The corpus does not provide mana costs, range, or a complete spell list. (Chapters 83, 254–255)

Flight, Cosmic Sense, and management resources

Her wings let her move quickly between club levels, while Cosmic Sense appears to warn her of dangerous or anomalous events. It helps her avoid the assassins' expected route, though it does not identify every attacker or prevent her death amid a large breach. As assistant manager she can summon guards, trigger emergency defenses, unleash vorpals, refund fees, and arrange club security; these are institutional controls and staff relationships, not proof of innate combat powers. (Chapters 83, 248–255)

Relationships

  • Hamed: Hamed is Astrid's husband and the Night Wyrm who leads the Guild of Suffering. He orders her death despite her efforts to protect the family, leaving their sons to hunt him afterward. (Chapters 255, 307, 311)
  • Damascus Steel and Anaconda: Astrid places her sons in a hidden employment arrangement at the Penis Parade to keep them safe and asks for their rescue as she dies. (Chapters 255, 311)
  • Carl and Katia: Astrid treats them as troublesome crawlers and ultimately protects Carl during the breach, unaware that they have accepted the quest to assassinate her. Their killing of her saves Donut and Katia from the immediate forced-choice crisis. (Chapters 83, 202–255)

Items

No personal item link is assigned to Astrid in the current manifest. Her club controls, office, and employment network are institutional resources rather than carried possessions, and the corpus does not identify a named personal weapon or artifact. (Chapters 83, 248–255)
