Asojano

Asojano, the Lord of Smallpox, is a former Orisha made flesh as a disease-emitting city boss. Carl captures him as an eighth-floor card totem, but his hostility and refusal to obey make the powerful debuffer nearly as dangerous to Donut's own deck as to its opponents. (Chapters 232–279)

Biography

The Eighth Floor and Bedlam

Asojano returns to a town he once helped rule and finds his shrine destroyed, while his disease aura drives the surrounding ghommids into crisis. He demands ritual deference and tries to use a shell wand that initially fails outside the temple. Inside, he becomes stronger, holds enemies beyond the doors, and prepares the Sun of Reawakening while ordering the party to restore his shrine. Competing gods demand different repairs, turning his ritual into a conflict that ends with Donut muting his casting and the party overwhelming his shield. (Chapters 232–237)

Carl flags the dying boss and converts him into a Level 130 undead totem. Asojano immediately attempts to debuff Donut in training and follows orders poorly, so his disease power cannot be trusted in time-sensitive play. He is frozen and killed by snare cards in one match, then Donut combines him with Uzi Jesus into a distinct Level 140 composite. The fusion ends his original standalone deck state rather than curing his hostility. (Chapters 243, 250–260, 279)

Asojano later reappears glowing gold with a sugar-skull staff and woven-gold skirt during the fight around Quan. He ignores gunfire, touches the fallen crawler, and covers him with boils and a sequence of debuffs before disappearing with Uzi Jesus. The source does not explain whether this Gold Edition is the original card restored, a temporary system variant, or a copy. (Chapter 279)

Appearance and personality

Asojano is an albino humanlike man in a reed hat and grass skirt, carrying a large shell wand; boils cover half his face when his costume is torn away. The hat obstructs his vision enough that he bumps into things. His later gold form carries a short sugar-skull staff. He is imperious, fearful of betrayal, volatile, and immature after card conversion, retaining a former god's demand for obedience without dependable authority. (Chapters 232–237, 279)

Skills, class, and abilities

Disease aura and debuffs

Asojano embodies disease and is described as capable of killing and healing. Nearby ghommids avoid him while allies fear approaching his aura; as a card, he is valued for debuffs. In the gold state, physical contact produces boils and multiple status effects. His aura endangers potential allies, protective arenas can block attacks on Donut, and Mute interrupts his attempted casting. (Chapters 232–250, 279)

Temple authority and shielding

Within his temple Asojano is stronger, temporarily bars ghommids from entering, generates the Sun of Reawakening through ritual dance, and raises a shield when attacked. The shield has its own health pool but can be worn down by animated armor, while his own health begins falling before it is fully gone. His power is therefore materially location-dependent and vulnerable to coordinated interruption. (Chapters 235–237)

Card mechanics and fusion

As a Level 130 undead totem he has seven utility slots and substantial debuff access. Snare cards can immobilize and defeat him, and his noncompliance makes fast play unreliable. Fusion with Uzi Jesus produces a new non-undead totem with inherited abilities, fewer utility slots, and a different personality; those improvements belong to the composite, not continuing mastery by Asojano. (Chapters 243–279, 332)

Relationships

  • Donut: Donut defeats, flags, and trains Asojano, but he attempts to attack her and rarely accepts deckmaster authority. (Chapters 237–279)
  • Uzi Jesus: Both are powerful, disobedient undead totems later merged into a composite. They also appear together in gold forms. (Chapters 250, 279, 332)
  • The Orishas: Asojano's broken shrine competes with Ogun, Oshun, Yemaya, and others; their conflicting demands ensure his reawakening ritual fails. (Chapters 235–238)

Items

No personal item link is assigned to Asojano in the current manifest. His reed hat, shell wand, sugar-skull staff, and card are components of his boss or summon states rather than separately assigned artifacts. (Chapters 232–237, 279)
