Darkness Crystal

The Darkness Crystal is a black crystal sphere that gathers dark energy. Its true purpose remains unknown, but even simple experimentation can accumulate enough energy to produce a catastrophic explosion.

History

Silence’s discovery and lost laboratory

The Spirit Race researcher Silence finds the crystal by chance during his early travels. He determines that it gathers energy exclusively from darkness and begins testing it, but the resulting dark-energy explosion flattens an entire river canyon and destroys his laboratory. Silence survives only because the Spirit Race can slip through the void. The blast scatters his experimental records and materials, and he spends centuries searching for both them and the crystal without learning the object’s intended use. (Chapter 446)

Yu Wei’s retrieval attempt

Silence directs his consciousness slave Yu Wei to steal the crystal from a wooden chest in an Evil Tiger Gang storehouse. Su Chen and Ji Hanyan capture Yu Wei, and Su Chen removes the crystal from his clothing. Su Chen then uses an illusion to make Yu Wei believe Silence has rescued him and returned the crystal so that Yu Wei will reveal where his master is hiding. The apparent return occurs only inside the illusion; Su Chen retains the recovered object. (Chapters 434 and 436)

Research material

By searching the memories connected to Silence, Su Chen identifies the crystal as the cause of the old laboratory disaster and recognizes its energy-gathering property. No later experiment establishes the crystal’s original maker, full function, or final consumption, and no later transfer is recorded. (Chapter 446)
