Shang Li
Shang Li is a Boundless Sect fleet disciple whose body and consciousness are taken over by an Astral. The controller uses him to attract Sea Beasts and sabotage the sea expedition, but Su Chen detects the infiltration, captures him alive, and studies the connection. The sabotage and consciousness techniques belong to the controlling Astral rather than to Shang Li's independent skill set. (Chapters 949–955)
Biography
Sabotage from within the fleet
Under Astral control, Shang Li pours Fragrant Bait medicine into the sea while pretending to idle. A fellow soldier notices that his concern for rules is out of character but unwittingly interrupts the act rather than exposing it. Shang later stands inactive during an attack while appearing busy, then speaks to a captured Sea Beast in a way that carries the controller's consciousness influence and helps provoke renewed violence. These scenes offer only indirect glimpses of Shang's own prior personality because the occupying will is already directing him. (Chapters 949 and 952)
Su identifies both the bait and the consciousness manipulation, then confronts the puppet. The Astral-controlled Shang first maintains the disciple persona, drops it when exposed, and attempts to leap into a Demonic Lord's mouth rather than permit investigation. Su suppresses his Origin Energy, pulls him back, and orders soldiers to prevent suicide without meeting his eyes. The distinction matters: the body endangered is a member of Su's fleet, while the hostile speaker is the remote controller. (Chapter 952)
Consciousness research
Su takes Shang to the research laboratory and enters his dream realm through Fata Morgana. The Astral has imprisoned Shang's own will inside a regenerating labyrinth and fully corrupted his sea of knowledge. Su concludes that he cannot safely free the disciple, but learns the controller's consciousness pulse and uses it to detect other puppets. He knocks Shang unconscious after withdrawing. The later statement that none of the puppets can be saved leaves Shang's recovery unresolved and indicates that he remains a research subject rather than returning to duty. (Chapters 953–955)
Appearance and personality
Shang is a young man serving aboard the fleet. During the sabotage his face is generally emotionless or carries expressions selected by the controller, including a slight smile and later cold composure. Almost no reliable personality evidence survives from Shang himself. A fellow soldier says that caring about drinking regulations is unlike him, suggesting that the uncontrolled Shang was less rule-bound than the puppet's performance.
