Qiu Qingzhi

Qiu Qingzhi is the scholar and close political aide of Crown Prince Lin Wenjun. He serves as an aggressive public spokesman, a private analyst of court support, and a careful flatterer who helps Lin devise coercive pressure against Su Chen and the former Heavenly Might Battalion. Interrogating Su Chen

Qiu enters the public hearing at Flowing Gold Fort by accusing Su of making a secret agreement with the Ravagers. He understands Lin's unspoken cue and presses the charge, but Su turns the accusation back on him by inviting him to cross Ravager territory personally. Qiu is willing to provoke Su under the hall's protection but unwilling to accept that danger himself, and the generals' laughter leaves his attempted intimidation discredited. (Chapter 727)

In private, Qiu gives Lin a precise count of which generals and officials supported Su, revealing that the Crown Prince lacks a dependable base at the fort. He recognizes Su as a formidable figure and knows that Lin's earlier actions were rash, yet he also knows that advisers who correct the Crown Prince have died. He therefore converts criticism into praise, assuring Lin that ambition rather than error explains his choices. This combination of useful analysis and self-protective flattery is why he remains close to Lin. (Chapter 729)

Designing coercion

When money and direct orders cannot buy Su or Shi Kaihuang, Qiu proposes using the dispersed veterans of the old Heavenly Might Battalion as leverage. The framing and imprisonment of Xiang Rui are meant to make Su seek an audience and bargain, but Su refuses to fight on those terms and leaves for the capital. Qiu reports the failed contact, supports transferring the problem to the nobility clans, and asks what to do with Xiang Rui; Lin responds by ordering more veterans imprisoned. (Chapters 729 and 732)
