Chang Er

Chang Er is a captured bandit whom Su Chen transforms into the first successful Shadow Servant. Initially obedient from fear, he develops into a trusted scout and messenger whose concealment lets him gather intelligence throughout the Clear River conflict.

Biography

The first Shadow Servant

Chang Er survived Su Chen's experiment with Shadow Origin Substance and gained the power to conceal himself in shadows. He briefly considered using that ability against his captor, then realized that Su Chen could destroy him through a planted restriction. He swore loyalty and became the first successful Shadow Servant, with movement techniques added to keep him alive during reconnaissance. (Chapters 345–346)

Su Chen sent Chang Er to watch the Long Clan, Yuan Lieyang, and other targets. Chang Er later identified Yu Wei after the attack on Iron Cliff, carried Su Chen's message to Long Qingjiang, and guided the Long Clan to witness a staged confrontation. Under Su Chen's training, he advanced from the Qi Drawing Realm to the Blood Boiling Realm and remained among the former bandits who became loyal, effective subordinates. Appearance and personality

Chang Er is shown wearing a black cloak while acting as a Shadow Servant. The corpus does not otherwise describe his face, age, height, or build. His emergence from empty space and shadows is usually more noticeable than his physical appearance. (Chapters 347, 433, and 491)

He begins as a frightened, opportunistic bandit who obeys because Su Chen controls his fate. He is not naturally eloquent, but he learns to execute instructions reliably and can deliver a pointed message with confidence. The narrative later groups him with Su Chen's most loyal and effective followers, indicating that his allegiance becomes more stable than his first coerced pledge. (Chapters 345–346, 491, and 571)

Abilities and cultivation

Chang Er's defining power is Shadow Concealment, granted through Shadow Origin Substance. It lets him disappear from ordinary observation and emerge from shadows, making him valuable for surveillance and covert messages. His Hemolytic Totem also contains loaded versions of Snaking Mist Steps and Whitetower Teleportation, chosen for escape rather than assassination. (Chapters 345–347)

He reaches the Qi Drawing Realm by Chapter 491 and the Blood Boiling Realm by Chapter 571. Su Chen considers him weaker than several other former bandits and uses him chiefly as a spy. The loaded techniques cannot be taught onward or independently improved, and perceptive experts such as Long Qingjiang can detect him. (Chapters 346, 491, and 571)

Relationships

• Su Chen: Su Chen transforms, restricts, trains, and commands Chang Er. Their relationship begins through coercion but develops into effective long-term service. (Chapters 345–571)
• Long Qingjiang: Chang Er spies on the Long Clan and later delivers an invitation to its patriarch. Long Qingjiang detects his presence and recognizes that Chang Er is voicing Su Chen's prepared analysis. (Chapters 347 and 491)
• Iron Cliff: After Iron Cliff is wounded, Chang Er's surveillance team locates the attacker and reports the target's identity and position to Su Chen. (Chapter 433)

Items

The finalized item inventory contains no entries for Chang Er. His black cloak visually suits his covert role but is not identified as an Origin Tool. The Shadow Origin Substance and Hemolytic Totem techniques embedded in his body are enhancements rather than separate possessions. (Chapters 345–347)
