Soul Armor Scroll

Overview

The Soul Armor Scroll is a prepared, near-instant activation of the Soul Armor spell. It produces a transparent barrier that protects the user from hostile energy and soul-directed effects without requiring the time needed to chant or construct the spell during an ambush.

History

Carried as an emergency defense

While traveling underground, Saul considers the Soul Armor Scroll his fastest available defense against an unknown pursuer. He draws it when danger approaches but does not expend it, preserving the one-use item for a later emergency. (Chapters 125–127)

Activation against Ferguson

When Ferguson attacks with lightning in the bronze chamber, Saul activates the scroll at the last instant. The transparent armor blocks the residual current long enough for Saul to maneuver among the corpses, then gradually dissipates. Saul later constructs Soul Armor directly in his mental body and casts the spell without the consumed scroll. (Chapters 175, 245, 443–628)

Functions and limitations

• Instantly raises a temporary transparent Soul Armor barrier.
• Blocks spiritual attacks and can also absorb hostile magical energy such as lightning.
• Functions once as prepared equipment, avoiding a vulnerable casting interval.
• Its protection is finite and can be exceeded by stronger ranks, complex rules, or sustained pressure.

Custody

Saul carries the scroll until Chapter 175, when its activation against Ferguson consumes the prepared item. Later Soul Armor appearances are Saul's learned spell, not evidence that the scroll survived or was reusable.
