Ralph
Biography
Fleshcraft inheritance and monstrous release
Ralph is Sid's grandfather and the injured master of the declining Bloodthorn family. After Gorsa wounds him, Victor offers a potion that promises recovery; Ralph initially recognizes the danger but accepts when hidden damage makes ordinary survival impossible. The treatment turns him into a human-faced worm that devours the victims Victor sends into the estate and gradually loses rational identity. Ralph's steward Hunter preserves his research and asks Saul to grant him release. Saul completes the poison-like antidote, contains the dying creature, and inherits the Catalog of Blood, fleshcrafting knowledge, and Ralph's notes on the Dead Wizard's Diary. Ralph dies, while his research becomes part of Saul's later body reconstruction. (Chapters 81, 184–229, and 277–278)
Appearance and personality
Ralph is remembered as a cautious family wizard before the potion reduces him to an enormous human-faced worm covered with arms, tendrils, mouths, and absorbed victims. His remaining lucid preparation of an antidote shows that he resisted the transformation before hunger erased most of him. (Chapters 184–229)
Abilities
His fleshcrafting magic uses a stable soul as the core around which foreign flesh can be absorbed and reshaped. Damage to that soul causes the body to lose identity and become uncontrolled accumulation, a principle Saul later applies to safer body-soul integration. (Chapters 184–229 and 277–278)
Relationships
- Saul: Saul kills the irreversible monster, preserves Ralph's intellectual inheritance, and uses its lessons to redesign his own body. (Chapters 184–229 and 277–278)
- Kismet: Acting as Victor, Kismet supplies the potion and victims that turn Ralph's desperation into the haunted estate. (Chapters 184–229)
