Biography

A fatal run of luck

Mike had spent more than a decade traveling for trade when he met Saul on an airship to Sky City. Proud of the white porcelain cat called Cat's Gratitude, he demonstrated its apparent luck through dice and treated the charm as a commercial advantage. Soon afterward he drowned in a shallow washbasin under impossible circumstances. His missing soul and the vanished cat revealed that the favorable coincidences had been part of a lethal curse rather than a harmless merchant's asset. (Chapters 751–755, 761)

Appearance and personality

Mike is an experienced adult traveler with the confident sociability of a practiced salesman. He is eager to demonstrate a profitable curiosity and too trusting of repeated good fortune to investigate its cost.
