Biography

Senior researcher and failed conspirator

Mark supervises Saul in Kaz's laboratory, where difficult study and bodily experimentation make him both an instructor and a warning about the tower's costs. He participates in research around transformation, aberrant flesh, and the hidden systems of the East Tower, but later aligns himself with the forces moving against Gorsa. During the tower crisis, the contamination and divided loyalties around Mark make him a threat rather than a senior Saul can trust. Gorsa ends that uncertainty by killing him and shrinking the remaining head into a scorched, dark-red object that he stores without explanation. (Chapters 13–27, 86–167, 227–246, and 377–390)

Appearance and personality

Mark initially presents as a capable upperclassman accustomed to Kaz's severe laboratory rules. His later transformations and final shriveled head reflect a career in which physical form is treated as research material rather than a stable boundary. (Chapters 13–27, 158–167, and 377–390)

Abilities

He has substantial experience in sorcerous body modification, laboratory procedures, and spells used to restrain or transform living material. These skills do not protect him from Gorsa's direct intervention. (Chapters 13–27, 86–167, and 377–390)
