Anze
Biography
Mentor and would-be tower master
Anze is introduced through Lokai as a versatile mentor whose principal fields are earth and wood, with additional work in water and poison. His broad laboratory interests and patronage of the Mutual Aid Society give him influence over apprentices, but also a private power base. Convinced that Gorsa is weakening and corrupting, Anze leads the faction that plans to kill him and inherit the tower. The resurrection revolt instead exposes the enormous gap between ordinary True Wizards and Gorsa. Anze's forces collapse, his followers die or scatter, and he does not survive to claim the research empire he expected. (Chapters 8, 51–81, 232–242, 399–444)
Appearance and personality
Anze presents himself less directly than Lokai, allowing the enthusiastic apprentice network to advertise his expertise and recruit dependents. He is patient, ambitious, and willing to frame a violent seizure as a rational response to Gorsa's danger. (Chapters 8, 51–81, and 399–444)
Abilities
His research spans earth, wood, water, poison, formations, and tower-scale laboratory work. That versatility supports conspiracy and preparation, but cannot overcome the rank and structural advantage Gorsa reveals. (Chapters 8, 51–81, 232–242, and 399–444)
Relationships
- Lokai: Lokai recruits apprentices and organizes exchanges that extend Anze's influence through the tower. (Chapters 8, 51–81, and 232–242)
- Gorsa: Anze serves within Gorsa's tower while preparing to kill and replace him, a betrayal Gorsa answers decisively. (Chapters 399–444)
- Saul: Anze's faction treats Saul as a resource or loose end, pushing him firmly onto the opposing side. (Chapters 428–444)
