History

The Waveshift Realm contest

News of the seals draws enormous numbers of Daolords to the Waveshift Realm and turns each discovery into a deadly competition. Ning and Ninedust become entangled in battles among the realm's strongest entrants while pursuing one of the seals. (Chapters 1073 and 1097)

Ning's gift to Ninedust

Ning makes the principal contribution to defeating the seal's final guardians, but gives the recovered Voidsea Jadeseal to Ninedust. Winesage recognizes the choice as evidence that Ning values his companion above a treasure capable of affecting the Daomerge. (Chapter 1122)

A successful Daomerge

Ninedust ultimately uses the seal while preparing for his Daomerge and succeeds on his first attempt. The treasure fulfills the cultivation purpose for which Ning gave it to him. (Chapter 1393)

The contest remains one of the defining episodes Ning later recounts when describing his path through the Waveshift Realm, even though he did not retain the seal for himself. (Chapter 1450)

Abilities and properties

• The seal assists a Daolord preparing for the Daomerge, making it extraordinarily valuable to cultivators nearing that threshold. (Chapters 1073 and 1122)
• Its value is strategic rather than offensive: factions fight over possession because of the cultivation opportunity it represents. (Chapters 1097 and 1122)
