Ninedust Sectlord

Ninedust Sectlord, whose Ancient-cultivator name is Redwater, is a powerful staff-wielding Daolord who begins as Ji Ning's enemy and becomes one of his closest companions. Their friendship is built through forced cooperation, shared danger, and repeated choices to risk survival for one another.

Biography

Sectlord and invader

Ninedust first appears as a silver-masked sect leader with a cold and violent reputation. After the former Ninedust Sectlord dies, he seizes the position and uses the sect to search surrounding territories. Numerancy guidance has told him that his destiny lies in Eastroad, so his campaign against the Eastroad Sect is not merely territorial: intimidation, the killing of Daolord Overgold, and the siege are calculated attempts to clear access to a hidden ancestral call. (Chapters 1028–1034)

The strategy brings him into conflict with Ning. Ninedust has greater raw power, while Eastroad's formations and Ning's domain prevent a quick victory. He gradually moves toward the hidden passage under cover of battle, but Ning detects the real objective and follows. When the ancestral mechanism transports both of them into an unknown complex, rivalry ceases to be strategically useful; survival requires them to stand together. (Chapters 1032–1036)

The ancestral estate

The estate's endless stone passages are filled with regenerating flame creatures, many comparable to Fourth-Step Daolords. Ninedust's staff-arts can smash them apart, but they reform from the surrounding fire and walls. Ning's defensive sword-arts and domains hold groups back while Ninedust supplies destructive force. Ninedust relies on a forbidden technique to sustain that level, rapidly consuming energy and forcing him to obtain spirit-pills from Ning. Their complementary weaknesses turn reluctant cooperation into earned trust. (Chapters 1036–1037)

The site's deeper inheritance reveals that Ninedust is not an ordinary member of his sect. He is an Ancient cultivator named Redwater, drawn by the legacy of his own people. The trials expose him to ancient guidance and help explain why destiny rather than conquest was his real motive at Eastroad. He does not leave with a simple weapon that solves his cultivation; the inheritance becomes one part of a much longer preparation for the Daomerge. (Chapters 1037–1054)

Choosing friendship in the Waveshift Realm

By the Fourth Step, Ninedust learns that Ning belongs to the Brightshore Kingdom, a faction with a history of hostility toward Ancient cultivators. He chooses their shared experience over inherited factional hatred and swears a lifeblood oath that secures their alliance. The decision converts a pragmatic partnership into brotherhood. (Chapter 1079)

He joins Ning in rescuing Daolord Solesky and then competes for the Voidsea Jadeseals in the Waveshift Realm. Ninedust remains aggressive when other seekers claim opportunities, urging the group onward instead of treating the first loss as decisive. He later protects companions through multiple battles and accepts the risks created by Solesky's urgent Daomerge attempt. (Chapters 1083–1111)

Redscatter poison nearly breaks him. The toxin, designed to torment even Eternal Emperors, subjects him to twelve days of agony so severe that he initially begs for death. Surviving does not make the suffering trivial; it leaves him with a harder Dao-heart and a direct debt binding his fate to those who stayed with him. (Chapters 1123–1124)

A separate path and the Jadefire rescue

Ninedust eventually separates from Ning because the Daomerge cannot be completed through companionship alone. He has used a Voidsea Jadeseal, studied Autarch guidance, and examined hundreds of Hegemonic legacies, but still needs experiences that belong to his own Dao. He chooses independent wandering despite knowing that failure means death, refusing to substitute safety near Ning for the conditions his breakthrough requires. (Chapter 1187)

Enemies later capture him and use him as bait in the Jadefire Realm. Ning recognizes the trap and enters anyway. The rescue confirms in action what their oath and travels established: Ninedust is no longer a convenient ally but a friend Ning will accept mortal danger to save. Their later reunion is correspondingly informal and joyful despite the enormous difference in Ning's status. (Chapters 1214–1230 and 1385)

Appearance and personality

Ninedust is introduced in silver robes and a silver mask, with a cold, sinister expression and the bearing of a feared sectlord. He is ruthless toward obstacles, proud of his strength, and initially secretive about his objective. Shared hardship reveals endurance, tactical honesty, and deep loyalty. He can beg for death under unbearable poison without the narrative treating him as a coward, then continue on a solitary Daomerge path once recovered. (Chapters 1028–1037, 1123–1124, and 1187)

Abilities and cultivation

Ninedust is a Fourth-Step Samsara Daolord with an Ancient-cultivator divine body and a Dao centered on water. His offense uses a longstaff, while his bloodline body and water transformations provide exceptional survival.

Oceanic staff-arts

Ninedust's longstaff attacks manifest an endless ocean and carry the rhythm and force of the sea. Sweeps can scatter groups of Fourth-Step-class flame creatures, while focused blows deliver crushing physical power. His style is faster and more destructive than Ning initially expects, but it is less complete defensively than Ning's Omega sword-arts. (Chapters 1036–1037)

When surrounded, he uses a forbidden technique to raise his output enough to survive. The increase is temporary and expensive: it drains energy so rapidly that sustained fighting requires Thousand Origins pills or similar replenishment. This creates a clear limit in prolonged battles even when individual enemies cannot withstand his staff. (Chapter 1037)

Ancient-cultivator divine body

Ninedust's true lineage gives him an unusually powerful divine body. At the Fourth Step he can transform into a water-like or aquaform state that physical attacks have extreme difficulty annihilating. His protective divine ability lets him endure prolonged assaults from several supreme Daolords and makes ordinary damage far less decisive than it would be against another cultivator. (Chapters 1079 and 1098)

The defense is not universal immortality. Heartforce, soul, and truesoul attacks can reach the consciousness that must continue controlling the water-like body. Redscatter poison also demonstrates that a substance designed for higher-level beings can bypass ordinary durability and inflict sustained internal torment. (Chapters 1079 and 1123–1124)

Daomerge preparation

Ninedust's late cultivation is organized around the Daomerge. A Voidsea Jadeseal lets him simulate the process and gain insight, while Autarch guidance and hundreds of Hegemonic legacies provide models for possible paths. None guarantees success. His decision to adventure alone acknowledges that borrowed techniques and treasures cannot replace integrating his own Dao into an eternal whole. (Chapters 1092–1111 and 1187)
