Whitewater Hound
Whitewater Hound, usually called Uncle White, is Ji Yichuan's sworn brother, a formation grandmaster, and one of the elders who raises and protects Ji Ning's family across the eras.
Biography
Sworn brother and guardian
Uncle White is part of Ning's life from birth. When the infant faces danger, the great white hound saves him, and Yichuan later makes clear that Ning should treat Uncle White with the respect owed to a father. He is not a household pet: he is an intelligent Godbeast with ancient Fiendgod blood and Yichuan's sworn brother from repeated life-and-death adventures. (Chapters 3 and 15)
That bond is chosen rather than ceremonial. Before a deadly confrontation, Yichuan releases Uncle White from any obligation and orders him to leave. Uncle White refuses, preferring death beside his brother to safety purchased by abandoning him. The same loyalty extends naturally to Yuchi Snow and Ning, making him a member of the family before later cultivation gives him a human form. (Chapter 107)
He accompanies Ning during early training and remains a measured voice when the younger cultivator takes risks. As Ning leaves Swallow Mountain for increasingly dangerous trials, Uncle White's role shifts from physical escort to specialist support and household stability. (Chapters 15–17 and 189)
Formation specialist
Elemental essence advances Uncle White to the late Wanxiang stage, but rank is not the main source of his importance. He studies formations with exceptional concentration, using spacelock and concealment arrays to close escape routes without alerting targets. When Ning hunts Yu Dong, Uncle White quietly seals the surrounding region so the enemy cannot flee through space. (Chapters 217–220)
His expertise grows through contact with other formation masters and access to better archives. He recognizes the methods and reputations of the Crab-Tortoise Immortal Duo, then reacts with delight to Mount Innerheart's collection because it offers knowledge unavailable in Stillwater Commandery. Study, rather than a sudden inheritance, is the consistent cause of his progress. (Chapters 296 and 361)
By the late Void level, Uncle White is counted among Stillwater's foremost formation grandmasters. During Ning's campaign against the Youngflame clan, he prepares seventy-one linked formations covering ten thousand kilometers. Their overlapping detection, suppression, and trapping effects hold five Celestial Immortals inside the battlefield and prevent escape long enough for Ning's plan to unfold. The accomplishment is preparation-intensive and territory-dependent, illustrating why his greatest strength is strategic control rather than spontaneous dueling. (Chapters 403 and 446)
Elder of Ning's household
Uncle White helps care for Brightmoon during the war years. While watching Ning's Empyrean Tribulation, he explains the strength of Ning's divine body and translates an incomprehensible cosmic event into family history for the child. He later challenges Ning directly when Ning's explanation for remaining in primordial chaos does not make sense, preserving the right of an elder to demand honesty even after Ning becomes vastly stronger. (Chapters 568, 599, and 757)
When Ning restores Yichuan and Snow, Uncle White weeps and calls Yichuan “big brother” again after their long separation. He later stands beside the restored family as Ning prepares for apparent terminal seclusion and remains present through the final era. His arc therefore ends where it began: not with rank or conquest, but with the family bond he repeatedly chose to maintain. (Chapters 992, 1387, and 1450)
Appearance and personality
In his natural form Uncle White is a massive hound with snow-white fur. As a Godbeast he is born with human-level intelligence, while reaching the Zifu stage permits him to assume human form. He is cautious without being timid, affectionate without being indulgent, and direct enough to challenge both Yichuan and Ning when family duty requires it. (Chapters 15, 107, 757, and 992)
Abilities and cultivation
Uncle White combines a Godbeast's natural foundation with deep formation study. His combat value comes chiefly from preparing environments that detect, isolate, restrain, and expose stronger enemies.
Whitewater Hound bloodline
His Whitewater Hound lineage carries ancient Fiendgod blood, grants intelligence from birth, and gives him a large bestial body. Cultivation to the Zifu level unlocks human transformation; later elemental essence advances his personal energy to late Wanxiang and he eventually reaches late Void. These advances increase the power available to formations, but the corpus continues to distinguish his cultivation rank from his much rarer technical insight. (Chapters 15, 217, and 403)
Spacelock and concealment formations
Uncle White can establish formations without announcing their presence, then activate them to prevent spatial escape and isolate a target. The Yu Dong operation demonstrates their tactical use: preparation occurs before confrontation, allowing Ning to fight without the opponent fleeing through a teleportation method. The arrays control movement rather than directly proving Uncle White can defeat the trapped target in personal combat. (Chapters 218–220)
Linked grand formations
His largest demonstrated work combines seventy-one formations over a region ten thousand kilometers across. Linking them lets different arrays supply detection, trapping, and suppression instead of asking one design to perform every function. Five Celestial Immortals are held inside the prepared zone, giving Ning time and positional control against opponents far above Uncle White's own direct cultivation. (Chapter 446)
This scale requires advance construction, appropriate terrain, materials, and a defended control structure. Imperial-palace formations remain beyond what he can casually overcome, and mobile combat reduces the advantage of his grandest arrays. His craft is consequently strongest when allies can choose the battlefield and protect the preparation period. (Chapters 403 and 446)
