Patriarch Subhuti

Patriarch Subhuti is a primordial True God, the hidden master of Mount Innerheart, and the Three Realms' foremost expert in spacetime. His significance comes as much from the people he teaches and preserves as from his own power: he turns a secret lineage into a refuge, shapes Ji Ning's early cultivation, and uses his unrivaled mobility in the Three Realms Endwar.

Biography

The hidden master of Mount Innerheart

Subhuti survives from the primordial era by avoiding contests for territory and studying the cosmos, the Heavenly Daos, Buddhism, and Daoism. He creates the Crescent world and hides Mount Innerheart within layers of folded spacetime. Even True Gods who visit cannot find the estate again unless he permits their return. His disciples usually leave without naming their master, allowing many apparently unaffiliated Immortals and Fiendgods to carry his teachings throughout the Three Realms without exposing the lineage. (Chapters 356–361, 383, and 386)

His oldest friendships complicate that detachment. Daoist Threelives is his closest companion, but when the war that shattered the Primordial World begins, Subhuti watches through the Dream of the Three Realms while Threelives enters battle and dies. Subhuti speaks honestly about having withdrawn and preserves the memory without turning it into self-justification. When he later recognizes Threelives' successor, the bond gives him a personal reason to intervene. (Chapter 359)

Teaching Ji Ning

Through the Dream of the Three Realms, Subhuti notices Ji Ning and the Starseizing Hand during the Immortal Destiny Conclave. He sends Lord Jiang to bring Ning to Mount Innerheart, confirms the Starseizing Manor's history, and accepts him as a disciple. His first lesson is about temperament rather than technique: a cultivator needs a grand aim, a solid foundation, caution, and the sharpness to advance. He recognizes that Ning's intensity creates both exceptional potential and an exceptional risk of dying young. (Chapters 356–359)

Subhuti does not simply hand Ning every art in his archive. The Divinities Palace and Three Realms Palace contain cultivation methods, formations, sword arts, body arts, and secret techniques, but each legacy has a test. Ning earns the Eight-Nine Arcane Art, Houyi's Archery, and Torch Dragon's Eye through those trials. The system lets talent and commitment determine access while preventing a disciple from collecting techniques without mastering them. (Chapters 360–370 and 393)

His instruction is also highly individual. After watching Ning train, Subhuti develops the Obscuring Wind of the Nine Heavens as an evasive art and the Greater Thousand Swords Formation around Ning's unusually large sword arrays. Time flows differently in the world where he experiments, allowing him to spend hundreds of thousands of years refining the former and a thousand on the latter. He releases Ning only after the Eight-Nine Arcane Art gives his disciple a credible means of survival. (Chapters 393 and 402)

The gathering storm

As the Seamless Gate conflict grows, Subhuti remains Ning's strategic adviser and protector without eliminating every consequence of Ning's choices. He helps assess the enemy's hidden strength, gives guidance concerning the Celestial Tribulation, and later identifies headquarters Ning can attack after Yu Wei's loss. When Ning insists on walking a dangerous path, Subhuti prepares what he can and leaves execution to the disciple rather than substituting his own will. (Chapters 409, 492–511, and 555–571)

Within the Nuwa Alliance he becomes a trusted coordinator. Mount Innerheart's folded spacetime offers unusual security for sensitive discussions, although Subhuti acknowledges that Demonheart's merger with the Heavenly Daos may still compromise it. He shares discoveries with the alliance's senior powers while limiting especially dangerous transmissions to people whose loyalty is beyond reasonable doubt. (Chapters 614 and 619–624)

The Endwar and the Mindlord

Subhuti fights for the Three Realms after the hidden instigator is revealed. His old friend Shennong leaves him the Lifeseizer Flower, a one-use soul and truesoul weapon that must bloom within thirty meters of its target. When Old Man Yuan reveals himself as the alien Mindlord, his black lotus formation locks the surrounding spacetime. The alliance breaks that lock long enough for Subhuti to transfer a clone beside him and activate the flower. The clone dies immediately; the Mindlord survives only because his soul defenses are extraordinary, and even then he is gravely weakened. (Chapters 748–751)

Subhuti then helps remove weaker allies from the final confrontation. When the surviving major powers believe Ning has surrendered, Subhuti refuses to accept that his disciple has chosen cowardice. Ning's victory vindicates that trust. After the battle, Subhuti supports the Seamless Gate's conditional return, arranges the cremation of both alliances' dead, and assists Ning in rebuilding the Six Paths of Reincarnation, whose operation depends on spacetime. (Chapters 752–756)

Later Three Realms

Subhuti warns Ning carefully before his departure into primordial chaos and remains a senior guardian of the Three Realms. He later welcomes Nuwa home and survives through the final restoration of those lost in earlier wars. His school thus endures beyond the crisis it was originally hidden to survive. (Chapters 757, 1329, and 1450)

Appearance and personality

Subhuti appears as a skinny, white-bearded elder in loose robes. Seated on the teaching platform, he emanates a peaceful aura rather than overt pressure. His home, conversational manner, and restrained presence contrast with a reputation built on killing Fiendgod Daofathers and escaping threats no one else can evade. (Chapter 359)

He is cautious, private, and intensely observant. That caution once kept him out of the primordial war and leaves him with grief over Threelives, but it also preserves generations of disciples. As a teacher he combines demanding trials with extraordinary private labor, tailoring arts over accelerated millennia. He does not protect students from every danger; he gives them tools, warns them clearly, and respects choices whose cost he understands. (Chapters 356–393 and 555–571)

Abilities and cultivation

Primordial True God and Daofather

Subhuti was born a True God of primordial chaos and trains both as a Fiendgod and a Ki Refiner. His Dao insight places him well above ordinary True Gods and Daofathers, close to the Three Realms' overlord class. The corpus emphasizes that he has killed multiple Fiendgod Daofathers and possesses many created divine abilities, while still regarding Threelives' Starseizing Hand as a combat art beyond anything he personally devised. (Chapters 356, 359, 684, and 693)

Supreme spacetime mastery

Subhuti considers himself the Three Realms' number-one expert in spacetime. He folds space in multiple layers so that Mount Innerheart cannot be found, crosses immense distances without relying on ordinary speed, and can move into a different spacetime continuum where pursuers cannot follow. This makes his art equally effective for escape, infiltration, rescue, and assassination. Old Man Yuan values the technique more highly than the Worldheart and spends ages trying to obtain it. (Chapters 356, 614, and 748)

The technique's distinction from speed is important. The Lord of All Fiends moves extraordinarily fast by merging Wind and Space; Subhuti instead changes the continuum in which he is located. Locking local spacetime can prevent an immediate transfer, which is why the Nuwa Alliance must breach the Mindlord's black lotus before Subhuti's clone can appear at killing distance. (Chapters 748–750)

Dream of the Three Realms

The Dream of the Three Realms lets Subhuti observe distant events through dreams. He uses it to watch the primordial war and later to recognize Ning's Starseizing Hand during the Conclave. The art gives broad perception, but not automatic control over what it reveals; knowing about a danger does not itself remove that danger or make every future certain. (Chapters 356 and 359)

World creation and reincarnation

Subhuti creates the Crescent world, teleports shattered pieces of the Primordial World into it, and establishes its own cycle of reincarnation. He uses the world as a protected territory for experimentation, sealed relic zones, and the development of disciples. After the Endwar, the same spacetime expertise makes him Ning's essential assistant in rebuilding the Six Paths of Reincarnation for the wider Three Realms. (Chapters 383, 386, and 756)

Teaching, formations, and technique creation

Mount Innerheart's archives cover swordplay, sabers, Taiji, lightning, constructs, formations, Ki refining, body refining, divine abilities, and secret arts. Subhuti not only collects this material but can create techniques for a particular cultivator. The Obscuring Wind of the Nine Heavens is an evasive method developed for Ning; the Greater Thousand Swords Formation uses a fused Greater Thousand Rune to coordinate a vast number of flying swords. These are transmitted creations, not attacks Subhuti is shown using personally in battle. (Chapters 360–361, 393, and 422)

Clones and the Lifeseizer Flower

Subhuti can split his divine body to create a clone and use spacetime to place it near a target. Against the Mindlord, that delivery method lets the clone bloom Shennong's Lifeseizer Flower. The flower indiscriminately destroys nearby souls and truesouls, including the user's clone, and exists only once; its lethal effect belongs to Shennong's creation, while Subhuti supplies the timing, carrier, and otherwise impossible approach. • Ji Ning: Subhuti's disciple and Threelives' successor. Subhuti shapes Ning's foundation, creates tailored arts for him, advises him through war, and trusts him during the final confrontation with the Mindlord. (Chapters 356–393 and 555–757)
• Sun Wukong: One of Subhuti's famous disciples. Wukong belongs to the same concealed lineage and survives the Endwar beside his master. (Chapters 683 and 752–754)
• Old Man Yuan: Once treated as a friend, later exposed as a Mindlord who coveted Subhuti's spacetime techniques. Subhuti sacrifices a clone to deliver the attack that critically weakens him. (Chapters 748–751)
• Shennong: An old ally who entrusts Subhuti with the Lifeseizer Flower because only Subhuti's spacetime mastery offers a realistic way to deliver it. (Chapters 749–751)
