Mu Northson

Mu Northson is a construct specialist of Black-White College and one of Ji Ning's closest lifelong friends. His talent turns constructed beasts and golems into a complete combat path, but it also makes him a target for the Seamless Gate.

Biography

A young construct cultivator

Northson enters Black-White College at only fourteen. Although the college's grand lightning formation places him under extreme pressure, he uses an Azure Dragon construct to survive the trial and demonstrate that his machines are not incidental equipment but the center of his cultivation. Daoist Jadefine accepts him as a disciple because true construct cultivators are rare even within the College. An allotment of elemental essence advances him to the middle Wanxiang stage and gives him enough energy to control stronger creations. (Chapters 156–160 and 186–189)

His early battles reveal both the potential and the cost of that specialization. Black-serpent constructs let him attack through multiple artificial bodies, but a soul attack disrupts his concentration and therefore the machines under his control. By peak Wanxiang he has improved his Fiendish Skyeater Serpents enough to grind the Ghostfetus King to death. The victory depends on expensive materials and repeated refinement, reinforcing that the Dao of Constructs consumes resources on a scale ordinary cultivators do not face. (Chapters 197 and 218)

Northson's loyalty develops alongside his craft. When Qingqing is taken, he joins Ning's rescue attempt without hesitation. He later accompanies Ning into the Witchriver Immortal Estate, where a silver-serpent construct expands his striking range while close combat repeatedly exposes the weakness of his own body. The shared danger makes the relationship more than a school friendship; Ning eventually calls Northson his closest fellow disciple and lifelong brother. (Chapters 201, 255–279, and 355)

Captivity and forced mastery

The Seamless Gate exploits Northson through Yu Xia, the woman he loves. Her soul is confined in a soultamer jade, and threats of torment force him to manufacture golems for his captors. After Jadefine dies, Northson is already Black-White College's foremost living construct expert, but captivity subjects him to more than a thousand advanced formation-diagrams. He studies them because producing successful golems is the only way to protect Yu Xia, and the coerced work makes him a grandmaster while denying him any freedom in how that mastery is used. Ning infiltrates the base and rescues him. Northson leaves with knowledge capable of creating Celestial-Immortal combat golems and with a Winged Immortal golem provided by Ning, finally turning techniques learned under coercion toward his own survival. The rescue does not save Yu Xia: Patriarch Arcanum destroys her soul, leaving Northson screaming in grief and removing the future for which he endured captivity. (Chapters 431 and 434)

Revenge and family

Northson joins Ning's retaliation against the Youngflame clan because Arcanum's act makes the conflict personal. When karmic sinflames descend as a consequence of their slaughter, however, triumph gives way to guilt. His response keeps the revenge from being treated as an uncomplicated victory: it punishes enemies but cannot restore Yu Xia, and it imposes a moral and karmic cost on the survivors. He later returns to the role of trusted family rather than remaining defined by vengeance. Northson watches Ning's tribulation, helps Uncle White guard Brightmoon, and is present when Ning's parents are restored. He remains within Ning's family circle in the later eras, alive and still recognized as the brother whose loyalty survived their earliest dangers. (Chapters 568, 599, 992, and 1387)

Appearance and personality

Northson is introduced as unusually young for a Black-White College applicant. The corpus emphasizes his youth and the constructs around him more than a fixed adult portrait. His most consistent traits are openness, loyalty, and emotional intensity: he follows Ning into danger readily, endures enslavement to protect Yu Xia, and reacts to her final destruction with unrestrained grief. His guilt after the Youngflame retaliation also shows that loss does not erase his conscience. (Chapters 156, 201, 423–456)

Abilities and cultivation

Northson follows the Dao of Constructs, combining personal cultivation with formation-diagrams, refined materials, and remotely controlled artificial bodies. This gives him combatants that can be rebuilt and improved, but the constructs depend on his concentration, energy, and resources.

Construct control and combat bodies

His Azure Dragon, black-serpent, silver-serpent, and Fiendish Skyeater Serpent constructs act as extensions of his will. They let him fight through multiple bodies, surround targets, and apply sustained force without placing his flesh directly at the point of impact. The upgraded Skyeater Serpents demonstrate the method's attritional strength by grinding the Ghostfetus King down rather than defeating it with one decisive strike. (Chapters 156, 197, 218, and 275)

The controller remains a critical weakness. A soul attack can interrupt Northson's command even when it does not destroy the constructs, and an enemy who bypasses the machines can exploit his comparatively weak close-combat body. Stronger constructs also require rare materials and large investments, so insight alone does not immediately translate into battlefield power. (Chapters 197, 218, and 275)

Formation-diagrams and golem creation

Northson can read the dense runes built into construct equipment and translate diagrams into working golems. Captivity expands this from talented craftsmanship into grandmaster-level engineering: exposure to more than a thousand profound diagrams allows him to produce golems that channel the power of many controllers into a Celestial-Immortal-class combat body. The Fiendgod Golem is described as nearly impossible for anyone below a True Immortal or Empyrean God to overcome, although this performance belongs to the constructed weapon and its operators rather than to Northson's unaided body. (Chapters 224 and 423–431)

The Winged Immortal golem he receives after his rescue provides another equipment-derived increase. A Loose or Earth Immortal controlling it can display Celestial-Immortal combat power, while its wings release the Seven Ruinous Thunderwinds and add exceptional speed. The corpus establishes Northson's ownership and understanding of the golem, not that he personally created this particular machine. (Chapter 431)

Relationships

• Ji Ning: Senior schoolmate, rescuer, and lifelong brother. Northson repeatedly enters danger beside him, while Ning risks an infiltration to free Northson from the Seamless Gate. (Chapters 201, 355, and 423–431)
