Ji Truekeep

Ji Truekeep is the leading figure of the Ji clan's Northern Prefecture and one of the clan's hidden Zifu Disciples. He helps defend Oxhorn Mountain, succeeds Ninefire as patriarch, and manages the clan's expansion and wartime evacuation.

Biography

Hidden strength at Oxhorn Mountain

Truekeep arrives when Snowdragon Mountain tries to seize the elemental ore mine, revealing that the Ji clan has concealed a younger Zifu Disciple behind its publicly known elders. He accepts Ninefire's willingness to surrender territory if that is the price of clan survival, then helps operate the Netherwyrm Heavenlock Formation when battle becomes unavoidable. He attacks isolated enemies, guards Ning during critical training, and remains ready to sacrifice himself when Adept Xu threatens the formation. (Chapters 88–138)

Becoming clan patriarch

After Ninefire retires, Truekeep becomes patriarch of the Ji clan. Ning's rise gives the clan political protection and room to expand, but Truekeep handles the practical work: he negotiates the departure of rival local powers, receives envoys, monitors threats, and keeps track of allies such as Northmont Baiwei. His concern when Ning challenges Daoist Snowplume shows that he treats Ning as family and the clan's shield, not as an expendable weapon. (Chapters 228–290 and 394–403)

Evacuation and household life

When the Grand Xia Realmwar begins, Truekeep receives the imperial mobilization order and helps Ning evacuate the Ji clan from Swallow Mountain. He pauses above the homeland to grieve land cultivated by generations, but does not let attachment obstruct survival. He later remains close to Ning's household and is present while the family waits for Brightmoon to be born. (Chapters 508 and 548–549)

Appearance and personality

Truekeep is introduced as a middle-aged man and later appears in black robes. He is practical, attentive, and openly protective of the clan. He asks direct questions when Ninefire's plans are unclear, recognizes political danger quickly, and respects confidential matters. His leadership balances the elders' attachment to tradition with a willingness to relocate or negotiate when survival requires it. (Chapters 88–94, 137, 395, 403, and 508)

Abilities and cultivation

Middle-stage Zifu cultivation

Truekeep is a middle-stage Zifu Disciple whose cultivation path is already established by the time Ning considers Black-White College retainer slots. This makes him one of the clan's strongest cultivators before its younger generation rises, although his direct offensive power is below Ning's and the peak Zifu elders'. The corpus does not assign him a named personal manual. (Chapters 88 and 159)

Netherwyrm formation operation

Inside the Netherwyrm Heavenlock Formation, Truekeep occupies the enormous black dragon head and uses the formation's fog-created indicators to locate enemies. The formation supplies power and concealment, allowing him and Ah Xing to ambush isolated Zifu Disciples. Once the survivors establish a coordinated defense, their attacks can no longer secure easy kills, showing that Truekeep is an effective formation operator rather than its decisive solo combatant. Clan administration

Truekeep's most consequential capability is institutional rather than supernatural. He coordinates expansion, receives urgent military orders, protects access to Ning, tracks regional politics, and completes a rapid evacuation of the whole clan. These duties rely on trusted messengers and stronger protectors; they do not imply that he personally controls the higher-level forces surrounding the clan. (Chapters 243–290 and 394–508)
