Dong One

Dong One is a peak Wanxiang Adept of Snowdragon Mountain and the most talented cultivator of his Dong-clan generation. He uses cultivated dire-ice and a costly blood evasion art, first as part of a six-person ambush group and later during his fatal encounter with the Dragonwhale King.

Biography

Raindragon Guard trial

Dong One enters the Raindragon Guard recruitment trial as a golden-robed peak Wanxiang Adept. He recognizes Ji Ning through Snowdragon Mountain's feud with the Ji family, while Ning immediately distrusts the sect connection. Dong One then joins five other elite Adepts who use a spacelock formation to murder successful candidates, taking both the required monster corpses and the victims' treasures. (Chapters 189 and 195)

When the group targets Ning and Mu Northson, Dong One argues that Ning is young, dangerous mainly in close combat, and manageable at range. The assessment is informed but obsolete. Dong One contributes Massive Ice Prison while the six share elemental Ki through their formation, yet Ning's sword-light breaks through both his dire-ice and Xu Manquan's windmill array. Ning's Soulshaker Art then disrupts the attackers' minds, and Dong One survives only because a protective treasure blocks Ning's swords long enough for him to ignite Blood Evasion. Discovery of the goldflame vein

After healing in a hidden mountain, Dong One follows an underground river to a natural goldflame earthfire vein. His freezing-attribute foundation and existing dire-ice make absorbing the opposing flame potentially fatal, so he plans to sell the location instead. This is a technically correct limitation: unlike Ning's compatible dual foundation, Dong One cannot safely nourish both elements in the same Zifu. (Chapters 205–206)

Death in the Gaol Mountains

Dong One later travels with Redbud and Redleaf near the vein and is attacked by the Dragonwhale King as collateral in the Diremonster's hunt for Ning. Dong One's dire-ice cannot stop a Heaven-ranked sword carrying Primal Fire, and Blood Evasion runs into a prepared spacelock formation. Realizing his protective treasure can delay but not defeat the Primal Daoist, he asks why he must die and only then learns Ning is trapped nearby. (Chapters 208–210)

Rather than let Primal Fire erase his divine soul, Dong One self-destructs, preserving the possibility of reincarnation. The Dragonwhale collects his equipment; Ning and Northson later recover, assess, and sell most of it. His death is therefore not caused directly by their earlier fight, although his attempt to prey on them and his return to the same region place him in the chain of events. Appearance and personality

Dong One wears an ornate golden robe. He is opportunistic and willing to murder fellow candidates for resources, but he is not careless about every risk: he studies Ning, retreats when the six-person formation collapses, and correctly refuses to absorb an incompatible earthfire. His strong Dao-heart lets him remain conscious under the Soulshaker Art, while his final self-destruction is a calculated choice between reincarnation and complete soul destruction. Abilities and cultivation

Peak Wanxiang cultivation

Dong One is a peak Wanxiang Adept and Ki Refiner. His elemental reserve becomes more dangerous when linked to five peers through their spacelock formation, but his base remains below a Primal Daoist's. The Dragonwhale King's Primal Ki and Primal Fire simply overpower his defenses. (Chapters 189, 196–197, and 210)

Dire-ice and Massive Ice Prison

Dong One has absorbed naturally occurring dire-ice into his Zifu and nourishes it as part of a freezing-attribute art. Massive Ice Prison releases a visible wave of freezing energy to immobilize and damage targets at range. Dire-ice is compared to a divine ability in power, but it can be penetrated by Ning's focused sword formation and dissipated by the Dragonwhale's higher-level Primal Fire. (Chapters 196–197 and 210)

Blood Evasion

By igniting his blood, Dong One transforms into a scarlet streak and gains a sudden burst of speed. It saves him from Ning after his protective cocoon absorbs several sword strikes. The technique is an emergency escape rather than unrestricted teleportation: it consumes the user's foundation and still fails when the surrounding space has been sealed by a prepared formation. (Chapters 197 and 210)

Protective treasure and Dao-heart

A treasure acquired six years before the trial creates layers of black energy around Dong One. It withstands Ning's close-range swords and buys time to activate Blood Evasion, but against a Primal Daoist it can protect him only briefly. Separately, Dong One's resilient Dao-heart lets him remain barely conscious under repeated divine-will impacts; mental endurance prevents immediate defeat but does not cancel the attack or restore full movement. (Chapters 197, 203, 205, 210, and 213)

Relationships

• Ji Ning: Enemy chosen as prey during the Raindragon trial. Ning exposes the weakness in Dong One's intelligence and later inherits part of the value of his abandoned treasures. (Chapters 189 and 195–216)
• Mu Northson: Ning's partner and the other target of the six-person ambush. (Chapters 195–197)
