Daolord Brightfish is a newly advanced Second-Step Daolord of Vastheaven Palace. His scenes center on the palace's brotherhood: he helps welcome Ji Ning, supports Daolord Solesky before the Daomerge, and leaves an avatar behind when powerful Daolords threaten the sect for information about the Waveshift Realm.

Biography

A new Daolord of Vastheaven Palace

Brightfish reaches the second step shortly before Ning arrives at Vastheaven Palace. Solesky presents him as another recently advanced brother, and Brightfish immediately greets Ning by the Daoist title Darknorth. He then gathers the other members for the welcoming ceremony and banquet. That ceremony matters because Ning is not bound to the palace merely by possessing a talisman of welcome; until he formally joins, he could still choose another path. Brightfish, Solesky, and Battlemaster are visibly relieved once a cultivator of Ning's potential accepts their brotherhood. (Chapters 989 and 993)

Brightfish witnesses Ning advance from the first to the second step in less than a thousand years and accepts Solesky's teasing comparison with good humor. He also watches Ning's battle against Patriarch Clearwind. Like the others, he becomes alarmed when Ning faces Clearwind's killer attack instead of retreating, because the Vastheaven observers have only avatars present and cannot reach the battle with enough power to intervene. Solesky's preparations

After the conflict, the palace brothers divide the chaos nectar extorted from Blesswind and his allies. Brightfish initially resists Solesky's attempt to give away resources, especially when the distribution is connected to Solesky's preparations for a future Daomerge. Solesky insists because treasure will mean nothing to him if he gains eternity and even less if he dies; holding it back would help no one. Brightfish's reluctance is therefore not disdain for the gift but concern that an elder brother is impoverishing himself for the rest of the sect. (Chapter 1001)

Defending the palace with an avatar

When news of Voidsea Jadeseals spreads, Vastheaven Palace becomes a target because Solesky knows the Waveshift Realm. Battlemaster evacuates most disciples while Solesky, Ning, and Brightfish leave avatars to face anyone who arrives. Brightfish correctly realizes that challengers may spend otherwise irreplaceable treasures for even a slight increase in their Daomerge odds. When Mistbearer reveals a dangerous attack treasure, Brightfish warns that desperation may make him actually consume it rather than bluff. Ning's heartforce kills or drives away the first challengers, and Brightfish questions why Ning spares Soletruth; Ning explains that a survivor will spread a more useful warning than another corpse. The Junior Radiant King then arrives. Brightfish retreats with Solesky and Battlemaster so that their avatars do not obstruct Ning's defense, but the three follow the duel closely. Brightfish recognizes the sequence of the Radiant King's light-based killer attacks: Lumislayer is the weakest, Lumihilator stronger, and Lumipocalypse the decisive final technique. He is relieved when Ning withstands Lumislayer, yet remains anxious because hundreds of light clones conceal the true body and prevent an ordinary counterattack. Appearance and personality

Brightfish is a handsome man whose beauty is described as comparable to Su Youji. The contrast with his title is not explained, but his appearance is striking enough to surprise Ning during their introduction. (Chapter 989)

He is sociable, loyal, and cautious. Brightfish calls the palace together for Ning's welcome, accepts a prodigy as a brother without jealousy, and resists taking Solesky's wealth. Under attack he does not pretend his avatar can defeat a supreme Daolord. Instead, he identifies the opponent's tools, warns the group, and follows Ning's directions. Abilities and cultivation

Second-Step Daolord

Brightfish is a Daolord of the Second Step. His aura and advancement follow the ordinary pattern for a talented cultivator, unlike Ning's Omega Dao and multiple clones, which let Ning display Second-Step power immediately after his own unusual breakthrough. Avatar

Brightfish can maintain an avatar at Vastheaven Palace while his true body remains elsewhere.
