Su Youji
Su Youji, the Flamefairy, is Ji Ning's first retainer and a cultivator whose fire path develops into a specialized system of charm, illusion, and control. Her decision to serve Ning is voluntary and follows her refusal to accept a coercive oath from another master.
Biography
Refusing coercion
Youji is already famous when Ning first hears of her: a fiery-robed cultivator with a natural charm who reconstructed the Libertine Dream technique from ancient fragments. She describes herself as somewhat crazy, but the remark reflects defiance rather than carelessness. Elder God Skysouth demands that she become both his retainer and pleasure-companion under an unequal oath. She refuses even though her cultivation method requires her to remain a virgin until reaching the World level and Skysouth can exploit that vulnerability to pursue her. (Chapters 773 and 783)
After Ning kills Skysouth, Youji asks to follow him. The request differs deliberately from the oath she rejected: she seeks a binding relationship between equals rather than surrendering herself to exploitation. She demonstrates her value with nine streams of fiery blades that combine into a nine-tailed firebird, showing power comparable to a supreme Elder God even though her Ki-refiner body and lack of divine abilities leave her weaker in close combat. Ning accepts the terms, and she becomes his first retainer. (Chapter 784)
Becoming Feixian's successor
At the World level, Youji becomes a Chaos Immortal. Her foundation is powerful but uneven: she has tremendous ranged energy attacks, while her naturally weaker body and limited battle experience make direct exchanges dangerous. Golems and bugbeasts help her compensate, but those are assigned resources rather than evidence that her innate defenses have changed. (Chapters 833 and 878)
During a trial connected to the deceased expert Feixian, Fairy Qingfan rescues her from danger. Youji passes the inheritance tests and becomes Feixian's personal successor, receiving an estate and a legacy built around charm, illusion, and control. Hostile members of another branch then try to seize those gains. Rather than meet eighteen World-level cultivators head-on, she plans to reach the third stage of Flying Immortal, briefly control all eighteen, and use that opening to escape. At her current stage she believes she can reliably control only two or three at once, making the plan both technically specific and dependent on further mastery. (Chapters 896–898)
From Chaos Immortal to Daolord
Youji trains in the Palace of Fire because fire remains the foundation beneath her Feixian arts. Her presence can already distract weaker World-level cultivators without a deliberate attack, and even a momentary lapse may be fatal in a high-speed battle. Against peers with strong minds, however, charm is an opening tool rather than an automatic victory. (Chapters 905, 910, and 949)
When Ning disappears, Youji waits ten thousand years and refuses to believe he has died. Subsequent opportunities connected to Genesis and Feixian's inheritance let her become a transcendent Chaos Immortal and then a Daolord. This advancement deepens her control arts, but it does not turn her into a close-combat specialist; she continues to win by affecting perception, emotion, and decision-making before an opponent can bring raw force to bear. (Chapters 978 and 983–984)
Ning eventually releases his retainers from their obligations and equips them with lifesaving treasures for independent journeys. Youji chooses Vastheaven Palace, remaining near Ning's avatar while pursuing her own path. At the final family gathering she still teases Ning and still loves him, but the relationship has settled into unreturned affection on her side and familial care on his. (Chapters 1139 and 1387)
Appearance and personality
Youji is introduced in fiery robes, with a beauty and natural magnetism inseparable from how others perceive her cultivation. She is proud, playful, and resistant to ownership: she insults Skysouth while fleeing him, yet freely offers loyalty when she can do so on honorable terms. Her long wait for Ning and her decision to stay near Vastheaven show constancy beneath the flamboyant Flamefairy persona. (Chapters 773, 783–784, 978, and 1387)
Abilities and cultivation
Youji is primarily a Ki Refiner whose Dao of Fire powers ranged attacks and complements the heat, color, and sensory manipulation of her illusion arts. Her Feixian inheritance shifts her specialization toward controlling how targets perceive and respond to reality.
Libertine Dream and natural charm
Youji constructs Libertine Dream from incomplete ancient records rather than receiving a finished manual. Its practice is linked to her natural charm and imposes a pre-World-level restriction on sexual relationships. The corpus establishes the restriction and her successful reconstruction, but does not give a complete internal formula for the art. (Chapters 773 and 783)
Her charm also operates passively against sufficiently weak observers. It can daze a World-level cultivator long enough for an attack to land, which makes it especially dangerous when combined with high-speed fire techniques. The effect is relative rather than absolute: stronger Dao-hearts and heartforce can resist or ignore it, and Ning eventually lies far beyond the level she can influence. (Chapters 949, 988, and 1009)
Flying Immortal and Feixian's arts
Flying Immortal is a staged control art inherited from Feixian. At an intermediate level Youji expects to dominate two or three World cultivators briefly; the third stage would potentially let her seize eighteen long enough to create an escape window. This is temporary battlefield control, not proof that every affected target becomes a permanent servant. (Chapters 896–898)
Feixian's ninth art scales to Daolord conflicts. It can shake second-step and some third-step Daolords, disrupting their choices at a decisive moment, but opponents with powerful minds or heartforce are explicit counters. As a second-step Daolord, Youji can enspell the first-step Pillsaint while failing to affect Ning, illustrating that the result depends on the gap in spiritual and mental strength rather than cultivation stage alone. (Chapters 988 and 1009)
Youji can also impose a persistent control rune on a defeated target: a forehead mark permanently binds the Dragonwing Governor. This is distinct from the short openings created by passive charm and the temporary group control envisioned for Flying Immortal. The corpus demonstrates the result but does not fully describe the rune's creation or removal conditions. (Chapter 1041)
Fire, illusions, and combat limits
Her nine-stream firebird combines multiple fiery blade currents into one coordinated attack. At the Ancestral-Immortal stage it gives her power comparable to a supreme Elder God at range, but her weak body and lack of divine abilities make close combat a poor match. Later, her Dao of Fire becomes naturally compatible with illusions that feel real to their targets. She studies the reality-grade illusions left by a Hegemon, but the corpus does not establish that she reaches the Hegemon's full level of mastery. (Chapters 784, 833, and 1055–1056)
Golems and bugbeasts broaden her tactical options by providing durable bodies and additional attackers. They compensate for her physical weakness but remain external resources, and their presence should not be confused with an innate summoning power. (Chapters 833, 878, and 896)
Power progression
| Stage / Realm / Ability | Chapter(s) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ancestral Immortal fire specialist | 784, 833 | Develops a nine-stream firebird with supreme Elder God-class ranged force, while her body and close-combat experience remain comparatively weak. |
| World-level Chaos Immortal | 833, 878 | Reaches the World level with vast ranged energy and passive charm effects; assigned golems and bugbeasts compensate for physical weakness but are external resources. |
| Feixian successor | 896–898 | Passes the deceased expert's trials and inherits a charm, illusion, and control legacy, expanding her path without instantly mastering its higher stages. |
| Transcendent Chaos Immortal | 978, 983–984 | Uses later Genesis and Feixian opportunities to exceed ordinary World-level foundations. |
| Samsara Daolord | 983–1009 | Advances to Daolord and gains ninth-art influence capable of disrupting second- and some third-step peers; strong minds and heartforce remain explicit counters. |
