Love's Bond — Defiance of the Fall

Love's Bond is an evolving coffin-and-chain Spirit Tool wielded by Zac Atwood and inhabited by Alea. It begins as Zac's desperate attempt to preserve Alea and develops into a partnership expressed through shields, chains, a coffin, and the weapon form called Black Death. History

Divine Investiture

With Alea dying and her soul failing, Zac uses the Divine Investiture Array to turn the coffin preserving her into a Spirit Tool. He binds the resulting necklace with his blood and learns that it can expand into a coffin, launch chains, and protect him. The name Love's Bond reflects the personal choice at the heart of its creation. (Chapters 480–483)

Alea's return

For years the tool answers Zac without Alea's conscious voice. As its spirituality matures, Alea reappears as an active Tool Spirit with her own judgment, humor, and preferences. The tool gains additional forms, including Black Death, a death-attuned weapon manifestation that remains part of Love's Bond rather than a separate Spirit Tool. (Chapters 598, 815, and 847–850)

Evolving partnership

Alea continues to grow more independent as the Spirit Tool advances. She can appear between Zac's two bodies, choose when to manifest, and participate in decisions about her own cultivation and the tool's development. Their bond remains powerful precisely because it is cooperative, not because Zac treats her as an object. (Chapters 1030, 1066, 1080–1089, 1317–1320, and 1402)

Properties and use

Coffin and chains: The necklace can expand into a coffin-backed armament whose chains defend, restrain, and extend Zac's reach. (Chapters 482–483, 501–503, and 552)
Black Death: The tool can produce a separate death-attuned weapon form while retaining its identity as Love's Bond. (Chapters 849–850, 903–904, and 1085)
Living coordination: Alea's awareness allows the tool to react, communicate, and develop according to her will as well as Zac's needs. (Chapters 1030, 1066, and 1080–1089)
