David

David is one of Hannah's friends from before the Integration. A shapeshifter's use of his identity makes him appear complicit in an attack on Zac, but the real David survives captivity and later chooses a quieter life centered on farming and recovery.

Biography

Role in the wider conflict

David begins as an open, cheerful member of the camping group whose sociability keeps the trip energetic. After the Integration, a shapeshifter captures and tortures him for enough personal knowledge to replace him, then uses his face to manipulate Hannah into attacking Zac. The real David is eventually recovered alive but emaciated and scarred. Rather than let that violation define him, he builds a cultivated island with Hannah and chooses to focus on the new world's beauty. Farming becomes a practice for his heart and mind rather than a pursuit of profit, giving his survival a deliberate direction. (Chapter Prologue; Chapters 191–211 and 532)

Appearance and personality

David is a human man whose detailed appearance is not established. Before the Integration he is cheerful, approachable, and interested in soccer and hockey. After his ordeal, his decision to cultivate land without efficiency arrays suggests patience and a reflective desire to heal. (Prologue and Chapter 532)

Abilities and cultivation

No class, Dao, grade, or combat technique is reliably attributed to the real David. Actions taken by the hostile shapeshifter wearing his form must not be treated as David's abilities.
