Catheya is a Draugr scion of Clan Sharva’Zi and a disciple of Va Tapek whose search for news of her ancestor Be’Zi brings her into Zac Atwood’s orbit. What begins as a wary exchange between two ambitious cultivators develops through the Twilight Ascent and the Perennial Vastness into a durable alliance and romantic partnership. Her path combines Ice and Death, Draugr bloodline advantages, formation knowledge, and an Earthly Domain designed to let her survive—and eventually thrive—beyond the narrow environments naturally suited to the undead.

Biography

The Tower and an impossible connection

Catheya first notices Zac after his violent confrontation with the Zethaya Pill House at the Tower of Eternity. She is less interested in the destruction than in the trace of Clan Sharva’Zi’s missing progenitor that she senses on him. Confident that she can pass the Tower’s next floor without an opportunistic kill, she rejects Varo’s suggestion of ambushing Zac, yet promptly orders the removal of the remaining Tsarun contingent after learning who had fought him. Her curiosity is therefore paired from the outset with pride, ruthlessness, and a willingness to act on instinct when her clan’s interests may be involved. (Chapters 397 and 436)

When Catheya finally speaks with Zac, she introduces herself openly and presses him for information about Be’Zi. She cannot end the undead incursion on Earth because the Empire’s expansionist commandments are bound into Draugr bloodlines, but she does not leave him without options. In return for news that Be’Zi is alive, Catheya supplies means to expose and sever Karmic links, explains the dangers of trusting stronger factions, and warns him that choosing an Arcane class too early can permanently lock an immature path in place. Their first meeting ends as a reciprocal exchange of secrets and cultivation knowledge, with Catheya giving him a token through which he can contact her again. (Chapters 470–473)

The Twilight Ocean alliance

Years later, Catheya follows that token to Twilight Harbor and discovers Zac’s disguised Draugr identity, Arcaz Black. Her opening threat to turn him over to the Empire becomes an offer once she concludes that his strange heritage and connection to Be’Zi make cooperation more useful than coercion. She recruits him to seek Life-Death Pearls and complete Va Tapek’s hidden assignment, organizing an elite squad capable of cycling different Daos through a protective array against invasive Twilight Energy. Catheya treats the expedition as both a clan duty and a step toward personal autonomy: she intends to accept being a powerful ancestor’s chess piece only until she has accumulated enough strength to become a player herself. That ambition is tested when Yod sabotages the expedition, traps Catheya in an array that drains her Miasma, and forces Zac to reveal that his human and Draugr identities are one person to save her. Catheya refuses to exploit the revelation, arguing that she will not place wealth above a comrade, and signs a mutual secrecy contract. She then shares her knowledge while the survivors harvest Life-Death Pearls, turning a compromised mission into a cultivation success. The alliance carries a cost: Zac’s enemies hound Catheya’s group, forcing her to form an unplanned third Peak Dao Fragment and redesign her intended path around two different expressions of Ice. Even so, she defends him before the Umbri’Zi elders and uses her understanding of his suspicion and independence to argue for cooperation rather than control. The Perennial Vastness and Daedalian Court

The Undead Empire’s growing interest in Zac places Catheya between clan obligation and personal loyalty. She fears that powerful factions will discard him if the Left Imperial Palace becomes more valuable than an unusual Edgewalker, and she resents being sidelined from negotiations she helped make possible. Their reunion before the Perennial Vastness turns the alliance openly romantic. Inside the trial, Catheya pursues a Cosmic Core patterned after an ocean of Abyssal Death and frigid water, opens further Hidden Nodes, and discovers Earthly and Heavenly Harmonization while training in the Everfrost Isles. She also voices her fear that politics and Zac’s rapid ascent will give their relationship an expiration date; together they choose to pursue a future measured in centuries rather than accept the roles their factions assign them. After forming her core and entering Hegemony, Catheya turns Harmonization and her Dao Domain into Black Ice Cosmos, an Earthly Domain meant to carry her path into hostile environments. Her desire to reunite with Zac leads her through a dangerous lesson under the ancient dragon Hivissul, where she risks the Permafrost Gorge for the cold needed by her new cultivation method. In the Left Imperial Palace, she uses her domain to contain Hegemons, restore the base’s energy supply from afar, and help preserve Zac through a lethal transformation. She later enters the Daedalian Court alone, where repeated life-and-death trials earn her the Grand Unifier’s Crown. The crown lets her impose her domain on ancient false realities, but its missing spirit and the mysteries of her selection drive her deeper into the Court rather than providing a finished answer. Appearance and personality

Catheya is a pureblood Draugr with bright silver hair, pale lips, and pitch-black abyssal eyes that absorb light rather than reflect it. Her features are considered beautiful even among Draugr, though Zac initially finds the dead, lightless eyes unsettling. Her appearance becomes visibly more refined after prolonged cultivation at the Abyssal Lake, reflecting the same affinity-driven elevation seen in other exceptional cultivators. She favors carefully controlled presentation but is equally comfortable conjuring practical furniture and clothing from ice. (Chapters 397, 685, 697, 946, and 1150)

Her manner mixes teasing warmth with calculated pragmatism. Catheya bargains hard, probes for concealed motives, and can order lethal action without hesitation, yet she rejects easy victories that offend her pride and remains loyal after accepting someone as a comrade. Her ambition is not simply to inherit power from her master or clan; she wants enough agency to stop being moved by older cultivators’ plans. Away from politics and cultivation, she paints vivid landscapes and preserves unusual plants in ice, an outlet learned from her mother that reveals a love of color and experience at odds with the cold palette of her path. Abilities and cultivation

Catheya is an ice-and-death specialist whose cultivation evolves from powerful but environmentally narrow Draugr abilities into a domain-centered path. Her greatest strengths are exceptional Dao affinity, efficient control of large-scale ice constructs, and the ability to combine cultivation with formations. Her central limitation is elemental hostility: living, fiery, or otherwise incompatible environments consume her reserves and can directly harm her undead body, a problem that motivates most of her later innovations.

Draugr cultivation and Dao path

As a Draugr, Catheya uses Miasma and Death-attuned energy rather than life-attuned Cosmic Energy. The Abyssal Lake strengthens her heritage and affinities, while the Perennial Vastness lets her open a fifth Hidden Node, four of them bloodline nodes. She prepares for Hegemony through the Frigid Doctrine of Zi, circulating Miasma and drawing cold, deathly energy into a seed in her lower abdomen. Her planned core is liquid rather than a conventional solid construct: an ocean of Abyssal Death and frigid water whose pathways act as tributaries. The exact quality and substage of the completed core are not stated, but its formation is confirmed before her later return as a Hegemon. (Chapters 947–949, 1018–1019, 1048, 1115, and 1171)

Catheya originally intended to fuse one Ice and one Death Dao Fragment into a mixed Branch. Repeated battles in the Twilight Ascent force her to form a third Peak Fragment, leaving her with two distinct Ice paths: one broadly applicable and one aggressively sharpened. By her later Hegemony, those have become two Ice Dao Branches, one pure and one mixed-meaning. She plans to consolidate all her Ice insights into a single Earthly Dao rather than maintain redundant high-level concepts, but that fusion has not yet occurred. (Chapters 719, 755, and 1355)

Ice shaping and battlefield control

Catheya can freeze E-grade opponents almost instantly, launch blades and floating shards, move on rising pillars of ice, and raise layered barriers. Her largest early demonstration creates a fortress of pure ice around a Mothertree, integrating the construct with the tree and mounting four energy-dense crystals over its ramparts. She also uses storms of snow and Miasma to obscure movement, then relocates herself and allies over long distances. These techniques make her effective as a controller and force multiplier: she immobilizes targets for companions, shields a group from overwhelming attacks, and reshapes terrain into defensive positions. The same specialization creates clear counters. Heat and Life-attuned environments actively invade her body, forcing her to use talismans, crystals, or constant Miasma expenditure merely to remain functional. Extended missions can drain her even where Ice is useful, and an enemy who disrupts her control with fire can weaken the stability of her domain. Her later methods reduce this dependence but do not erase it; she remains strongest where cold or Death already has a foothold. (Chapters 988, 994, 1018–1019, 1171, and 1252)

Harmonization and Black Ice Cosmos

Catheya awakens Earthly and Heavenly Harmonization in the Everfrost Isles after allowing her Dao to resonate with the surrounding world. Harmonization internalizes compatible environmental Dao, strengthening her skills while reducing their energy cost; at its first manifestation, it increases her techniques’ power by roughly ten percent. Its benefit depends on the environment. Ice- and Death-aligned regions provide substantial power, while hostile regions offer almost nothing, making the ability unreliable as a universal foundation. To overcome that weakness, Catheya combines Harmonization with the opposing principle of a Dao Domain, which externalizes her understanding and imposes it on the world. The result is Black Ice Cosmos. The Earthly Domain can convert nearby energy toward Ice, seal away hostile conditions, suppress several Hegemons, erase traces, and expose the underlying truth of a false reality. It is taxing and less effective when the environment fights her path; sustained use leaves her mentally and energetically exhausted, while nearby fire can destabilize its operation. The Grand Unifier’s Crown later amplifies the domain and lets its light integrate more deeply than Catheya can manage unaided, allowing her to absorb Karmic threads and unravel ancient illusions. Lichcraft, formations, and instruction

Catheya’s side profession as a Lich gives her practical knowledge of souls, reanimation, and formations. She led an incursion before meeting Zac and turned Varo into a Revenant, after which he remained her steward and deathsworn commander. In the Twilight Ocean she deploys concealment, diversion, killing, shielding, tracking, and transport arrays; her Dao control is precise enough to create mobile arrangements rather than relying only on fixed formations. She also teaches Zac the theory needed to infuse Dao into skills and helps design Karmic misdirection around his disguised identity. Her formation knowledge becomes particularly important in the Daedalian Court, though she remains candid that she is not a true Karmic cultivator and cannot resolve every entanglement without force. • Zac Atwood: Catheya first treats Zac as a source of information about Be’Zi, then recruits his Draugr identity into the Twilight Ascent. Their trust survives the revelation of his dual nature and develops into a romantic partnership in the Perennial Vastness. Both recognize that factional politics and unequal advancement threaten the relationship, but choose to pursue a shared future rather than accept those constraints. • Va Tapek: Catheya’s Monarch master provides training, protection, and the intelligence behind her Twilight mission. She values his guidance but is shaken when his hidden role in the Eveningtide Asura’s plan makes clear how little she understands the schemes surrounding her. (Chapters 397, 470, 705, and 755–789)
• Varo and Qirai: Her deathsworn followers serve as attendants, guards, and expedition partners. Varo is a former planetary defender whom Catheya realigned during an incursion; despite that violent origin, he becomes a trusted steward. • Be’Zi: Catheya’s missing ancestor is the reason she first investigates Zac and a potential lifeline for the declining Sharva’Zi Clan. News that Be’Zi survives outside the Empire reshapes Catheya’s understanding of her lineage and repeatedly influences her willingness to protect Zac. (Chapters 397, 471–473, 740, and 789–790)
• Hivissul: The ancient undead dragon offers Catheya a cultivation method suited to Ice and Death but refuses to provide easy answers. Catheya risks the Permafrost Gorge and patiently works around Hivissul’s distance in hopes of turning their tentative Karmic link into a true teacher-disciple relationship. (Chapter 1171)
