Anise's Robe

Anise's Robe is the white, red-crossed sacred garment associated with Anise Slywood during the hero party's campaigns. It resists dirt and bloodstains, amplifies miracles, and later adjusted itself to Kristina Rogeris as its new wearer. (Chapters 202–203)

History

The Saint's unblemished symbol

Eugene remembered Anise as always wearing the pure-white robe with its red cross. Throughout years of travel in Helmuth, its white fabric never became dirty and its cross never lost its clear red color, even though Anise's own back beneath it was frequently covered in blood. Anise regarded the immaculate appearance as an ostentatious but useful symbol of the Saint. (Chapter 202)

After Anise's death, the robe was stored in the Vatican's Special Relics Vault with her other possessions. Kristina recovered it at Anise's urging. Although Kristina worried that it might not fit, the garment wrapped snugly around her and felt familiar and comfortable from its first use. (Chapter 202)

Kristina's inherited garment

Kristina wore the robe publicly soon after leaving the vault, initially using its hood to hide her resemblance to Anise. Anise emphasized that the relics were intended to assist Kristina, not erase the distinction between their identities. (Chapters 202–203)

The robe continued to serve as part of their traveling equipment. Its folds could conceal Anise's heavy flail, whose iron ball later dropped from within the garment immediately before a journey with Molon. No destruction or transfer away from Kristina and Anise is recorded within the covered chapters. (Chapters 202 and 424)

Abilities and properties

  • The robe amplifies the miracles performed by its wearer. The text does not quantify that increase or present it as a substitute for the wearer's own divine power. (Chapter 202)
  • Its fabric does not accumulate ordinary dirt or bloodstains: years in Helmuth left the white field and red cross visibly unblemished. (Chapter 202)
  • It adjusts to its wearer. Despite Kristina's uncertainty, it fitted her closely on first use and produced a long-familiar feeling of comfort. (Chapter 202)
  • Its hood and long folds provide mundane concealment, allowing Kristina to obscure her face and carry the reworked mace beneath it. (Chapters 202–203 and 424)
  • No specific armor-like resistance to weapons or magic is attributed to the robe; its confirmed protective qualities concern cleanliness, fit, and miracle amplification. (Chapter 202)
