Anise's Mace

Anise's Mace is an adamantium sacred weapon prepared for Anise Slywood during her childhood in Yuras. Repeated infusions of Sacred Blood and Light made it a powerful anti-demonfolk relic, and Kristina Rogeris later reconfigured it from a mace into a flail. (Chapter 202)

History

A relic forged through miracles

The mace was kept on a golden pillar in Yuras's Special Relics Vault. Its solid adamantium body had accompanied Anise into the Fount of Light from the beginning of her training. It was smelted with Sacred Blood and Light, and Anise continued to infuse it with Sacred Blood while using it as a catalyst for miracles and as a weapon against demonfolk. She also purified it daily. (Chapter 202)

These accumulated rites made the mace one of Yuras's most potent anti-demonfolk weapons, regarded as second only to the Holy Sword for that purpose. Its sanctity came from sustained use and consecration rather than from a single later blessing. (Chapter 202)

Kristina's flail

Kristina recovered the relic from the vault but found its solid construction extremely heavy, requiring two hands even for her. On Anise's advice, she removed the mace head and connected it to the haft with a chain, transforming the weapon into a flail whose momentum she could use more effectively. (Chapter 202)

Kristina became competent with the modified form, though she continued to treat combat as secondary to her responsibilities as a priest and supporter. Anise later tried the flail herself and admitted that she was not accustomed to the alteration and still preferred the original mace configuration, after which Kristina resumed wielding it. (Chapters 287 and 368)

Abilities and properties

  • The weapon is made from solid adamantium and is correspondingly durable and extremely heavy. Kristina initially needed both hands to manage it. (Chapter 202)
  • Sacred Blood and the Light were incorporated during smelting and repeatedly infused afterward. The mace consequently acts as both a miracle catalyst and a weapon especially effective against demonfolk. (Chapter 202)
  • Continuous purification and Anise's long use compounded its sacred character, leading Yuras to rank it immediately below the Holy Sword among anti-demonfolk relics. (Chapter 202)
  • Converting the mace into a flail improved leverage and allowed Kristina to exploit the head's momentum, but changed the handling enough that the original wielder found the new form unfamiliar. (Chapters 202 and 368)
  • Kristina's skill with the weapon did not replace her primary role as a priest; she used it selectively while prioritizing miracles and support. (Chapter 287)
