Ivatar Jahav
Ivatar Jahav is a Zoran warrior who becomes Great Chieftain of the unified tribes of the Samar Rainforest. He is both a frontline combatant and a reforming ruler, pairing exceptional physical strength with blessings granted by the forest's primal spirits. (Chapter 514)
Biography
Ruhr, Lehainjar, and the Dragon Conflict
Ivatar seeks Eugene Lionheart's help when the Kochilla Tribe begins conquering other tribes and stealing the souls of the dead. Returning to Samar after his father's fatal wounding, he defeats a usurping uncle in a formal duel, purges collaborators, assumes the chieftainship, and leads the Zoran alliance against Kochilla and Edmund's ritual. He later unifies the rainforest's tribes, suppresses practices such as trafficking and cannibalism, opens the new Zoran nation to outside knowledge, and retains the title Great Chieftain rather than emperor. Ivatar fights in later continental campaigns, accepts Eugene's temporary ordination without abandoning the World Tree, and serves in the final war. He survives, protects Samar's sacred sites, and governs a military power comparable to the continent's major states. (Chapter 616)
Appearance and personality
Ivatar is exceptionally tall and massively muscular, with burnt-copper-colored skin and white teeth. In formal settings he wears neat noble clothing; after becoming chieftain he appears in a beast-skull helmet, necklaces, bracelets, and extensive ritual tattoos across his bare upper body. He is hot-blooded and proud but also polite, pragmatic, quick-witted, open to outside cultures, and willing to request foreign help when tradition would otherwise doom his people. (Chapter 280)
Abilities and powers
Ivatar is an elite axe fighter with immense strength, speed, endurance, and battlefield leadership. The hereditary Blessing of the Forest opens paths, reshapes difficult ground, accelerates travel, and lets his words bestow practical protection within Samar. Additional primal-spirit blessings empower his body and allow earth, wind, flame, lightning, and rain to answer his needs; this tradition is related to but distinct from conventional spirit summoning. Its support is strongest where forest spirits are present, though allied spirit summoners can recreate favorable conditions elsewhere. (Chapter 473)
Relationships
- Eugene Lionheart: Ivatar and Eugene become friends and military allies; Ivatar entrusts him with Samar's crisis and later swears that Zoran will remain his ally. (Chapter 463)
- Melkith El-Hayah: Melkith's summoned spirits help Ivatar and his warriors receive their blessings even outside the rainforest. (Chapter 473)
- The Zoran and allied tribes accept Ivatar's rule after he proves his strength, and he later unifies all of Samar while modernizing its institutions. (Chapter 513)
