Gerhard Lionheart
Gerhard Lionheart is Eugene's biological father and the head of a remote collateral household in Gidol. Though he lacks the martial talent prized by the clan, his care, humility, and willingness to place Eugene's future before his own status make him the parent Eugene continues to recognize through adoption, reincarnation, war, and victory. Biography
Rebirth and the Lionheart Main Family
Gerhard raises Eugene in Gidol, worries that the continuation ceremony will expose his son to despair, and follows clan tradition even when it limits training. Eugene's victory leads Gilead to propose adoption into the main line, but neither Gilead nor Eugene proceeds without Gerhard: Eugene makes his father's consent decisive, and Gerhard accepts because the main estate can provide opportunities his own branch cannot. He moves into the annex so their family bond remains intact. Decades later, Eugene reveals that he is Hamel's reincarnation; Gerhard responds that he is still Eugene's father, embraces him, and later welcomes him home after the Demon Kings' defeat. At Dynas Academy's opening, he stands beside his son and weeps with pride over Eugene's plans for the future. (Chapters 2–28, 458, 618, and 625)
Appearance and personality
Gerhard is an overweight adult whose thick belly, sluggish movement, and shortness of breath reflect limited physical training and talent. The corpus does not give a stable hair color, eye color, exact age, or detailed clothing description. In later scenes he is distinguished more often by a tear-soaked handkerchief and visibly emotional reactions than by martial presentation. (Chapters 2, 19, 618, and 625)
He is loving, anxious, humble, sentimental, and deeply conscious of his low standing within the wider clan. Gerhard frequently worries that he has failed to give Eugene enough, but does not make that insecurity his son's burden. He trusts Eugene despite not understanding every danger, helps Ancilla care for the wounded, and can become unexpectedly firm when his right as Eugene's father is at stake. His reverence for Vermouth coexists with his insistence that Hamel's reincarnation remains his son. (Chapters 2–28, 458, 523, 618, and 625)
Abilities and powers
Gerhard has trained as a Lionheart and can swing a sword, but he explicitly lacks martial talent, becomes winded quickly, and never demonstrates a developed mana formula, sword-force, Signature, spellcraft, or battlefield technique. His useful contributions are domestic and civic rather than combat-oriented: he raises Eugene, manages his place within the family, assists Ancilla with care for injured people after an attack, and provides emotional continuity within the household. - Eugene Lionheart: Eugene is Gerhard's only son. Gerhard's care helps turn the reincarnated Hamel's initially distant view into genuine filial attachment; Eugene makes adoption conditional on his father's consent and later confirms that reincarnation changes nothing between them. - Gilead Lionheart: Gilead invites Gerhard and Eugene into the main household without trying to replace the biological father. - Ciel Lionheart: In the postwar household, Ciel spends time in the annex and tries to earn Gerhard's favor as a prospective father-in-law. Gerhard receives her company comfortably enough that they prepare to join family tea together before Eugene's unexpected return. (Chapter 618)
- Vermouth Lionheart: Gerhard reveres Vermouth as the clan's founding ancestor and weeps when meeting him in person. Even then, he rebukes Eugene for insulting Vermouth while simultaneously insisting that Eugene's past identity does not lessen his present place as Gerhard's son. (Chapter 618)
