Reigan Shen
Reigan Shen is a major recurring character in Cradle. Lion Monarch and organizer of the Dreadgod-cult coalition, using the tournament and Eithan's bargain to advance his larger plan.
Biography
Books 9–12
Enters the labyrinth weakened but heavily armed. The governing motive is to take Subject One's place, control hunger, and rule after the Dreadgods are weaponized. Acting on that priority, the character lures the Phoenix; kills Subject One; fights the group; uses Tiberian's Remnant; organizes Monarch resistance; attacks Ghostwind Hall. The resulting choices connect the character to the phase's central relationships and pressures, including lindon; Eithan/Ozriel; other Monarchs when interests diverge. (Chapters 185–219, 223–274)
Loses the labyrinth, is stripped of allies and leverage, and is forced to ascend. Repeatedly retreats from Penance and Dreadgod weapons until his coalition collapses. The change follows directly from the earlier situation—enters the labyrinth weakened but heavily armed—and from the concrete response: lures the Phoenix; kills Subject One; fights the group; uses Tiberian's Remnant; organizes Monarch resistance; attacks Ghostwind Hall. Sacred lion who presents as regal conqueror; maintains a vast spatial arsenal. Glory-seeking, generous to followers, ruthless to outsiders; local report frames him as deliberate myth-maker (137). White-maned sacred lion in human form; elegant, predatory, wealthy, and intensely status-conscious.
