Northstrider
Northstrider is a major recurring character in Cradle. Monarch, tournament arbiter, creator of Ghostwater, and source of Lindon's Consume method.
Biography
Books 9–12
Fights Dreadgods while studying Lindon and Dross. The governing motive is to accumulate enough power to escape Abidan control on his own terms. Acting on that priority, the character battles Titan and Silent King; helps stabilize Yerin; tries to seize Dross; fights Lindon; is Consumed and confronted with his younger self. The resulting choices connect the character to the phase's central relationships and pressures, including lindon; Emriss; Dreadgods. (Chapters 185–239, 253–268)
Lindon takes power, memories, and Dragon authority; Northstrider finally ascends. His old justification is exposed as fear and inertia when Lindon shows him the Sage he once was. The change follows directly from the earlier situation—fights Dreadgods while studying Lindon and Dross—and from the concrete response: battles Titan and Silent King; helps stabilize Yerin; tries to seize Dross; fights Lindon; is Consumed and confronted with his younger self. Together, these events move the character's position, loyalties, and practical influence forward without treating later reputation as on-page presence. (Chapters 185–239, 253–268)
Appearance and personality
Massive, ragged, unshaven man with vertically slit golden eyes and a black-scaled hand; deliberately ignores refinement. Blunt, utilitarian, and dismissive of weakness, yet rewards determination and useful anomalies. Rugged, physically imposing man associated with dragons, blood, hunger, and the Strength Icon. Proud, pragmatic, suspicious, and unwilling to surrender accumulated power.
Sacred arts and abilities
Blood, hunger, dragon, and Strength authority
Consume, immense physical force, dragon techniques, oracle codex, and spatial workings. (Chapters 188; 224; 238; 255–256; 267–268)
