Jai Chen

Jai Chen is a recurring character or sentient entity in Cradle. Spiritually crippled young woman whose welfare drives Jai Long; she argues against his revenge.

Biography

From hostage to new start

Channels and core damaged by a Remnant, abandoned by the main clan and dependent on Jai Long. The governing motive is to survive, keep her brother from destroying himself for revenge, and regain control of her spirit. Acting on that priority, the character persists in cycling, tries to dissuade Jai Long, cooperates with Lindon's healing, survives Archstone influx, and leaves for Sacred Valley. The resulting choices connect the character to the phase's central relationships and pressures, including chronic spiritual damage, clan neglect, hostage status, and unstable mixed madra. (Chapters 43, 47, 62, 67, 68, 69, 72)

Books 9–12

Helps defend and evacuate Sacred Valley refugees. The governing motive is to protect her brother and build a safe community. Acting on that priority, the character leads evacuees; joins Twin Star Sect; fights Dreadgod cultists; kills Jai Long when the Silent King controls him. The resulting choices connect the character to the phase's central relationships and pressures, including physical weakness history; Silent King. (Chapters 178–217, 235–237, 276)

Appearance and personality

Physically frail at first, struggling to breathe, stand, speak, or cycle; later visibly healthier after channel repair. Shy, stubborn, patient through pain, morally uneasy with Jai Long's revenge, polite and hopeful after recovery. Soft-spoken but increasingly capable and willing to lead.

Sacred arts and abilities

Repaired mixed madra and living dragon

Little Blue rebuilds and purifies channels; Archstone influx blends several madra types. Jai Chen later releases a small pink-white dragon-like spirit technique that behaves more like a living entity than Jai Long's snakes. Uses include begins learning movement and control while traveling. Limits include core remains weak and the influx is unstable and poorly understood. (Chapters 62; 69; 72)

Unusual madra carries aspects gathered from others; dragon-like Fingerling supports techniques. (Chapters 181; 192; 199; 212)
