Pentametal Crown

The Pentametal Crown is a damaged-looking, Life-aligned Overgod talisman whose settings receive the Nine Soul Pearls and the red caltrop diamond. Linley initially knows it only as a tattered crown, then learns that it is the structural component of the Crown of Life. (Chapters 733, 736, and 762)

History

A tattered crown identified

Linley encounters the unremarkable crown during the Planar War without recognizing its nature. Only after he reads the disseminated description of the three Life Overgod talismans does he identify his tattered crown as the pentametal crown. The same information explains that it must unite with the Nine Soul Pearls and red caltrop diamond to form the Crown of Life and permit a request to the Overgod of Life. (Chapters 733 and 762)

Counterfeits and the missing setting

As rumors spread, merchants produce imitation talismans. Linley's custody lets him compare a near-perfect counterfeit with the genuine crown's coloration and exact setting dimensions, while the seller's family history exposes how the copy was made. By the time Linley searches for the last talisman, the genuine crown already bears the nine soul pearls and lacks only the central red-diamond setting. (Chapters 736 and 751)

Completion of the Crown of Life

In the Yulan Plane, Linley brings out the crown with the soul pearls installed and places the red caltrop diamond beside it. The diamond flies into the remaining central setting, the talismans unite, and the completed crown flies onto the head of the appearing Overgod of Life. The pentametal crown is therefore transformed into a larger composite artifact rather than remaining a separate possession. (Chapter 762)

Abilities and properties

• The genuine crown carries Life-aligned energy capable of healing wounds, although the cited comparison calls it the least useful of the three talismans when considered separately. (Chapters 736 and 737)
• It contains nine outer settings for the soul pearls and a central, caltrop-shaped setting for the red diamond. Exact fit is part of how Linley distinguishes the genuine crown from counterfeits. (Chapters 736, 751, and 762)
• Its principal function is structural and ritual: joined with the other two talismans, it becomes the Crown of Life and summons the Overgod of Life. The crown alone cannot complete the mission or grant the resulting request. (Chapters 733 and 762)
