Moon Ring

A Moon Ring is the proof token required to complete the Moon Lake Castle Fiend trial. Each successful candidate had to return with a ring taken from one of the castle's gold-robed guards; possession, rather than the manner of acquisition, determined whether the Fiend Castle accepted the claim. History

Proof from Moon Lake Castle

The trial organizers instructed the candidates to kill gold-robed guards and bring back their moon rings. A ring taken from either a God or Highgod guard counted equally, and a candidate could keep the valuables stored inside it, but the ring itself had to be turned in as proof. This made the tokens targets for theft and trade among trialists as well as rewards for defeating guards. (Chapters 467, 471–472, 476)

Recovery and surrender

Linley and Bebe obtained rings from defeated guards, while the group recovered another after Fettes and his companions attacked them. Once Linley, Bebe, and Delia each had a qualifying token, they returned to Fiend Castle and surrendered their moon rings together with their Fiend seals, receiving Fiend medallions in exchange. Abilities and properties

The ring's decisive property is institutional: Fiend Castle recognizes it as evidence that a candidate completed the assigned trial. It can also function as an interspatial container whose contents may be removed after blood-binding, but it grants no stated combat enhancement and does not itself certify who killed the original guard. (Chapters 467, 472, 476)

Ownership and custody

Gold-robed guards at Moon Lake Castle initially carried the trial rings. They passed to successful attackers, could be stolen or purchased, and ultimately had to enter Fiend Castle custody for the bearer to receive credit. Linley, Bebe, and Delia therefore relinquished their respective specimens at the conclusion of the trial. (Chapters 467, 472, 475–476, 479)
