Patronage and final mission

Cardinal Lampson helped cultivate Linley's loyalty to the Radiant Church, publicly encouraging his training and participating in the honors and protection offered to the young genius. Later, Lampson led ten ninth-rank experts escorting Zassler toward the Church's territory. Linley attacked the convoy to rescue the necromancer, and Lampson and his entire elite group disappeared; Heidens concluded that all eleven had been killed.
