Biography

The Sculpture, Revenge, And Fenlai'S Fall

Bernard raises eight million gold coins to pursue Awakening From the Dream and manages Kalan's engagements to Alice and Rowling as matters of clan advantage. When Kalan wants Linley dead, Bernard initially questions the danger but ultimately hires Bloodrose after the broken relationship becomes a public humiliation. The clan's separate water-jade smuggling operation then collapses under prosecution; evidence against Bernard's third brother Kanter prevents the entire family from being exterminated but leaves it punished and diminished. (Chapters 107–134)

Bernard remains the clan's public head and hosts Kalan's wedding amid Fenlai's worsening crisis. The magical-beast catastrophe that destroys the capital kills Bernard along with Kalan, ending the status campaign that had governed his dealings with Linley and Alice. (Chapters 148–150)

Appearance and personality

The corpus gives Bernard no stable physical portrait. His decisions show a doting but status-conscious father: cautious about provoking Linley, lavish when family prestige is involved, and ultimately willing to use an assassin to protect his son's pride. (Chapters 107–126)
