Giant King's Sword

The Giant King’s Sword is an ancient, giant-sized weapon made by the indigenous species to support the Drakon Kechatulla and to command the giant peoples created for that warrior’s war.

History

Recovery beneath the Gullam forest

In-gong follows the sword’s call into a seven-level ruin beneath Gullam territory. On its lowest floor, the almost-intact black greatsword stands before the remains of an armoured giant seated on a throne. Its dragon-shaped handle is scaled for a giant, and the system identifies it as the sword belonging to the leader of the giants. When In-gong pulls it free, the Gullam hunters kneel and call him Drakon Kechatulla. He places it in his inventory; removing the sword also ends the magic sustaining the ruin, which collapses behind the escaping party. (Chapter 157)

The high priest of the lizardmen later explains that the Giant King’s Sword is unique and has a brother relic, the Dragon’s Horn. Both were made by the indigenous species about ten thousand years earlier for peoples created to aid the Drakon Kechatulla against the evil red serpent god. Their gems respond with similar light. (Chapters 170, 175)

The giant rebellions

At the 12th base, In-gong drops the sword among the charging Paran warriors. Its white aura strips away War’s red aura and forces warriors from all three giant clans to kneel. (Chapters 164–165) He then channels dragon magic into the jewel on its guard and uses a dragon’s command to make the Paran stand and obey. The sword helps neutralize the rebel force without slaughtering its giant contingent. (Chapter 166)

The same affinity later lets In-gong’s party establish peaceful relations with frost giants beyond the limit line. During the Sanctuary battle, giants fighting in distant regions recognize the sword and receive strength when the Drakon Kechatulla’s horn sounds. (Chapters 204, 225)

Weapon use and repair

Despite its size, In-gong uses the greatsword as a mobile battlefield weapon. It flies at his direction, pierces Berkintox’s armour, sweeps aside formations of blood warriors, destroys incoming ice, and cracks Yosarina’s frost armour when filled with aura. (Chapters 165, 178, 206–207)

In-gong gives the sword to Amita temporarily for repair. The work takes longer than expected, and no return scene or list of changes is supplied; however, In-gong has the sword again by the frost-giant expedition, demonstrating that it returned to his custody intact. (Chapters 183–184, 204)

Abilities and properties

• Rule over giants: The sword acts on instincts shared by the Gullam, Paran, and Hwarin clans. It can compel kneeling and make giants receptive to the Drakon Kechatulla’s commands. Its influence is coercive as well as symbolic. (Chapters 157, 164–166)
• Dragon-magic amplification: The command responds to a dragon’s magic power; the more magic In-gong supplies to the guard’s jewel, the stronger the domination becomes. (Chapter 166)
• Limits on domination: The effect is not irresistible. Berkintox resists because the power of War within him conflicts with the giants’ instinctive obedience. The influence also weakens when In-gong’s active pressure shifts elsewhere. (Chapters 165–166)
• Independent flight: The sword possesses its own ability to fly and can be directed in concert with In-gong’s Telekinesis. This lets him treat the enormous blade as a fast projectile, rotating barrier, or sweeping anti-personnel weapon without carrying its full weight. (Chapters 165, 178, 206–207)
• Physical and aura force: Its mass can scatter more than twenty blood warriors in one pass, while added aura lets it pierce armour and crack magically sustained ice defenses. It does not by itself instantly break Yosarina’s frost armour, whose strength is replenished by the surrounding cold. (Chapters 165, 178, 207)
• Recognition and support: The sword can facilitate nonviolent recognition by other giant groups and, in conjunction with the Drakon Kechatulla’s horn and the Sanctuary’s power, strengthen giants over a great distance. (Chapters 204, 225)
