Sektum
Sektum is an undead necromancer created by Shutenberg and later forced into Zephyr's service. In-gong's Knight Saga memories first identify him as a possible future subordinate of Zephyr, while the present timeline shows the violent recruitment and northern battles that make that possibility real.
Biography
Return against Shutenberg
Early references to Sektum as Zephyr's favorite subordinate or the world's worst necromancer belong to In-gong's memories of Knight Saga, not events that had already occurred in the present. In the actual timeline, Zephyr defeats Sektum, severs his legs, and forcibly inscribes subordinate magic on his forehead while Sektum struggles in terror. Sektum later stands with Zephyr in a relatively freer state than the tightly restrained Quanta, creates composite monsters for the dragon hunt, and accompanies the northern expedition back to the castle of Shutenberg, the lich who made him undead. There he raises thousands of corpses to fight Shutenberg's vastly larger army, then collapses in pain when his creator manifests. Sektum survives the campaign and is last reported with the remainder of Zephyr's troops beyond the Northern Limit Line, absent from the final battle. (Chapters 6, 40, 60, 104, 134, 183, 195, 198, 211–212, and 224)
Appearance and personality
Sektum has pale blond hair, a pale face, and blue eyes. At his capture his legs have been cut off, although his necromancy is already joining destroyed body parts; the source does not explicitly state whether his legs are fully restored afterward. He is an undead being made by Shutenberg, not merely a living magician who commands undead. (Chapters 134, 177, and 211)
His first present-timeline response to Zephyr is horror and physical resistance, making the coerced nature of his recruitment explicit. Later he appears comparatively free in Zephyr's formation and enthusiastically cheers his own chimeric creations, but that behavior does not establish that the original subordinate magic was removed or that his service became wholly voluntary. His return to Shutenberg mixes defiance with fear of his creator. (Chapters 134, 183, 195, and 211–212)
Powers and abilities
Sektum practices necromancy on both bodies and armies. His magic can rejoin shattered parts, produce chimeric monsters from creatures such as drakes, ogres, and wyverns, and raise thousands of soldiers and creatures that died beyond the limit line as an undead force. Those creations can interfere with enemy magic and participate in large battles. Shutenberg's appearance causes Sektum severe pain, but the exact mechanism and limits of this creator-created connection are not explained. The superlative titles associated with Sektum come from Knight Saga memories rather than a measured present-timeline ranking. (Chapters 134, 195, and 211–212)
Relationships
- Zephyr: Zephyr recognizes Sektum's value after defeating him and forces subordinate magic onto him through a painful inscription. Sektum thereafter serves in Zephyr's campaigns, although his later freedom of movement does not erase the coercive circumstances of that bond. (Chapters 134, 183, 195, 198, 211, and 224)
- In-gong: In-gong first knows Sektum through Knight Saga's possible route, where Sektum becomes one of Zephyr's favored subordinates. Present events eventually reproduce the broad alliance, but In-gong does not recruit or control Sektum himself. (Chapters 6, 40, 60, 104, and 217)
Items
- No notable personal item is included in Sektum's finalized inventory. His undead and chimeric forces are creations rather than catalogued personal artifacts. (Chapters 195 and 211)
