Indara

Indara is a sura militia commander and one of his people's rising stars. He leads a substantial contingent from the Sanctuary into the northern coalition, serves as a guide beyond the limit line, and carries warnings between the Sanctuary and In-gong's party during the final crisis.

Biography

Warning and Final Defense

Indara first greets In-gong at the sura Sanctuary, where he is responsible for its militia. He later leads twenty of the Sanctuary's few dozen sura warriors into the coalition and is entrusted with the expedition schedule and the route beyond the Northern Limit Line. As guide, he accurately warns that the cold will ease while creature attacks intensify and explains the suras' inherited legend of the red dragon as tradition rather than verified history. After the battle with Shutenberg, Indara checks on Ishgard, follows the unconscious Sword Duke's wish to accompany In-gong to the gandharva, and carries Ishgard through the canyon. He remains with the party when the other suras return to the Sanctuary, then relays news that the red dragon is advancing. He is alive at that last report, but no later outcome is supplied. Appearance and personality

Indara is a red-skinned sura with dark blond hair. Although he looks around twenty years old, he is actually seventy. He wears clothing almost identical to the Sword Duke's but colored gold instead of white, and he performs the suras' greeting by bringing both hands together like a monk. (Chapter 180)

His manner is cool, confident, and usually aloof. He accepts cleanup and command duties without hesitation, reassures the exhausted expedition with practical forecasts, and carefully distinguishes inherited legend from what he personally knows. His concern for both In-gong and the Sword Duke becomes more visible after the Shutenberg battle, when speed and responsibility take precedence over ceremony. Powers and abilities

Indara is a powerful sura warrior and capable commander. He leads twenty elite suras, opens his aura with nine others during a ceremonial sword dance, and uses a sword whose blade shines through that aura. His most consistently demonstrated skills are leadership, navigation, environmental knowledge, physical endurance, and communication between separated groups.
