Chandra

Chandra is a succubus aide in Anastasia's nightmare retinue, serving her through the siege at Curtis and the royal coalition's later movements.

Biography

Service during the Curtis Campaign

Chandra remains with Anastasia when treachery traps the central fortress and escape for the whole force is no longer possible. Fearing for her lord, she begs Anastasia to flee alone even though she knows Anastasia will not abandon her troops or Victor; on the battlefield she cries warnings and relief as Anastasia narrowly avoids fatal attacks. Chandra survives the siege with the nightmare contingent and resumes ordinary aide duties after In-gong's intervention, following Anastasia to meet him as soon as the battle ends and attending her recovery. Back at the palace, she carries the boxed Succubus Tears that Anastasia gives In-gong as a reward, then remains among Anastasia's lined-up followers. Her last appearance places her beside Carack and the other aides, helping restrain their exhausted royal charges during the northern campaign; her later fate is not stated. (Chapters 158–161, 164, 175, and 205)

Appearance and personality

Chandra is explicitly identified as a succubus and is grouped with Anastasia's nightmare followers. The corpus does not give her hair, eyes, clothing, age, or other distinctive physical traits; Anastasia's own appearance should not be transferred to her aide. (Chapters 158 and 161)

Her few direct reactions consistently show loyalty and concern. Chandra asks Anastasia to save herself, screams when attacks threaten her, relaxes when her lord evades a blow, and returns to practical service once the crisis passes. These scenes support an attentive and protective disposition but do not reveal broader ambitions or an independent political position. (Chapters 158–159, 164, and 175)

Powers and abilities

The narrative identifies Chandra as a succubus among the nightmares and notes that night is when nightmare minds are clearest. It does not, however, show Chandra casting attraction magic, entering dreams, fighting, or using a named racial technique. Her demonstrated competencies are those of an aide: staying with Anastasia in danger, organizing clothing and attendance, carrying a formal gift, and helping other aides control an unruly royal group. No apostle appointment, temporary combat empowerment, or personal power progression is assigned to her. (Chapters 158–161, 164, 175, and 205)

Relationships

  • Anastasia: Chandra is Anastasia's loyal aide and remains beside her through the Curtis siege, recovery, and later palace business. Her request that Anastasia escape alone is refused, but it demonstrates that her first concern is her lord's survival. (Chapters 158–161, 164, and 175)
  • In-gong: Chandra reaches In-gong's position with Anastasia after the siege and later carries the box containing Anastasia's reward for him. The gift belongs to Anastasia; Chandra only handles it as part of her aide duty. (Chapters 161 and 175)
  • Carack: During the northern campaign, Chandra joins Carack, Delia, Seira, and Sepira in settling the exhausted royal children. This is her latest recorded activity. (Chapter 205)

Items

  • Succubus Tears: Chandra temporarily carries the boxed necklace and hands it to Anastasia, who then gives it to In-gong. The scene establishes custody during the presentation, not ownership by Chandra, and the item is not part of her finalized personal inventory. (Chapter 175)
