Yun Shan

Yun Shan is Yun Yun's teacher and the Misty Cloud Sect elder whose intervention transforms Xiao Yan's Three-Year Agreement from a personal reckoning into a prolonged war with the sect. His pursuit of institutional supremacy culminates in an alliance with the Hall of Souls, his death at Xiao Yan's hands, and the collapse of the order he meant to preserve. Biography

Return from Seclusion

Yun Shan emerges from long seclusion as a Dou Zong just as Xiao Yan tries to leave Misty Cloud Mountain. He inherits a crisis created by Yun Leng's conduct, but chooses the sect's hierarchy over a neutral examination of responsibility. By blocking Xiao Yan and confronting Medusa, he makes clear that an outsider who humiliates or threatens a senior sect member will not depart simply because the original duel has ended. The choice turns the sect's prestige into a direct instrument of coercion. (Chapters 353–354)

His later pursuit of Xiao Yan after the attack on the Xiao clan deepens that commitment. Yun Shan's authority over Yun Yun and his place above Nalan Yanran bind their personal choices to his institutional judgment, while his willingness to treat Xiao Yan as an enemy makes exile the only viable escape. What first appears as the calm intervention of a venerable elder therefore becomes the hinge between a resolved engagement dispute and a feud capable of destroying families and reshaping the Jia Ma Empire. Expansion, Hall Alliance, and Death

During Xiao Yan's absence, Yun Shan uses the Misty Cloud Sect's power to extend political dominance while accepting covert support from Protector Wu and the Hall of Souls. His handling of Yun Yun reveals the personal cost of that strategy. He overrides his disciple's judgment and attempts to use marriage to Gu He as a means of binding an influential alchemist to the sect. The policy treats both loyalty and intimacy as resources to be arranged from above, even when Yun Yun resists. (Chapters 672, 703–705)

When Xiao Yan returns, Yun Shan commands the sect's final defense and meets the enemy he helped create. His wind-aligned Dou Zong power is no longer sufficient against Xiao Yan's growth and allies; Xiao Yan defeats and kills him, after which Protector Wu extracts and expends his spirit during the struggle that ends with Yao Lao's capture. Yun Yun later judges that her teacher's conduct made his death deserved. Appearance and personality

Yun Shan appears as an elderly man with long white hair and the composed bearing of a secluded senior. The restrained exterior helps him command deference when he first intervenes, but it does not reflect neutrality: his calm speech consistently rests on the assumption that Misty Cloud hierarchy has the right to decide who may leave and whose interests can be sacrificed. He is proud, authoritative, and increasingly manipulative when sect dominance is threatened. His pursuit of Xiao Yan, pressure on Yun Yun, political marriage plan, and Hall of Souls cooperation all follow the same logic—preserving power justifies control over subordinates and outsiders alike. Abilities and cultivation

Wind-aligned Dou Zong combat

Yun Shan reaches Dou Zong during his long seclusion. The inspected passages do not fully establish the training method or the degree of outside aid behind that breakthrough, so his advancement cannot be attributed to a specific source with certainty. At this rank he can mobilize wind-aligned Dou Qi and surrounding natural energy, move and fight in the air, and exert pressure that overwhelms much weaker cultivators. His emergence is powerful enough to stop Xiao Yan's departure and to contest Medusa directly. (Chapters 353–354)

He applies that power to interception, pursuit, and the large-scale defense of Misty Cloud Mountain. Wind attacks give him reach and mobility, but they are not absolute: Medusa can oppose him, and the much stronger Xiao Yan who returns later can break through his defense and kill him. Retrospective descriptions place him around the low two-to-three-star Dou Zong range rather than at the summit of the class. His extracted spirit does not constitute continued mastery; Protector Wu treats it as material and expends it after his bodily death. (Chapters 354, 705, 720, 722)
