Sentinel Helm
The Sentinel Helm is a dungeon artifact that can project the appearance of armor and, when fully activated, give that armor a protective physical effect.
History
The dungeon helm
Eryk finds a black runic helm in the dungeon and offers it to Maveith, whose goliath-sized head fits it. Raelia recognizes it as a sentinel helm, an artifact associated with the Knights of Virtue of Gesedmuria. Maveith experiments with the helm and discovers that he can manifest only the armor’s illusion with little aether, or activate armor with substance. (Chapters 341–342)
Testing its protection
Maveith tests the helm against dungeon creatures. The projected armor absorbs blows and quickly repairs visible damage, but maintaining it consumes aether. A manticore’s quills leave shallow holes in his leather armor beneath the projection, showing that the artifact does not make him invulnerable. (Chapter 342)
Abilities and properties
- The helm projects an illusory armor appearance; this effect alone has no substance. (Chapter 342)
- A separate activation gives the armor physical substance and protection. Damage to the projection repairs itself, at an aether cost. (Chapter 342)
- The helm is sized for a goliath, though another wearer can use it with an imperfect fit. (Chapter 342)
