Dreamscape Amulet
The Dreamscape Amulet creates a bounded dream-world where its user can practice skills and study while resting.
History
Discovery and private training
Eryk has the dungeon artifact identified by Tarvon, who explains that it is worn against the skin and activated by channeling aether. Eryk keeps it secret and first uses it to enter a dreamscape with a fixed boundary and an environment he can shape. He practices combat and studies there, gaining focused training while receiving the rest associated with sleep. (Chapters 71–72)
Shared use
Eryk later allows companions to enter the dreamscape, though he is careful about lending the artifact. He gives Castile temporary use when their group is trapped by winter conditions, and she uses it to accelerate her study of a difficult spell. The amulet can become tiring to use: Eryk experiences headaches after importing many books, and Castile observes that multiple users can overload it. Eryk eventually takes it back. (Chapters 134–139)
Continued study and dungeon expeditions
Eryk uses the amulet over many journeys for sword practice, spell study, and recreating books he has read. It remains one of his most valuable possessions. In the Shimmering Labyrinth, he lets Konstantin use it while the party rests; its dreamscape has fixed boundaries, although Eryk can alter the interior. (Chapters 130, 163, 202, 311, 341, 343)
Abilities and properties
- The amulet places its user in a controlled dream-world while they sleep, allowing practice, study, and mental training. (Chapters 71–72)
- Eryk can alter the environment inside its fixed boundaries and recreate books he has read. (Chapters 141, 163)
- Use can cause headaches and other backlash, particularly after recreating many books. Multiple users may strain the amulet. (Chapters 134–135)
- Eryk and Castile use it to make training and spell study more efficient; it does not replace experience or guarantee mastery. (Chapters 73, 128, 136)
