Remus

Remus is a red-haired legionnaire from Amphia who joins Eryk’s company after serving in Mage Gregor’s unit. He remains an outsider among the soldiers and dies during the expedition to the Shimmering Labyrinth. (Chapters 71–77, 113, 123, 132–146, 166–180)

Biography

Joining the company

Remus is transferred into the company along with other new legionnaires. He receives an essence intended to help strengthen him, but his unfamiliarity with the group remains visible. Later, Eryk sees that Remus is the only surviving legionnaire from Gregor’s company after the earlier battle, and notes that he keeps to himself. (Chapters 71, 77, 113)

Remus’s red hair makes him easy to recognize. He spars with Brutus and is described as one of the company’s quietest members. When Adrian assigns expedition teams, Remus is grouped with Cyrus and Soren, a trio whose members are not as socially integrated as the rest of the company. (Chapters 123, 145–146)

Death in the Labyrinth

During the Labyrinth expedition, Remus takes watch and helps with camp duties. He develops severe frostbite, and the company medic warns that his toes may need to be amputated. Eryk later finds his body outside the dungeon entrance, frozen and torn apart after the summoner’s attack. (Chapters 132, 137, 142, 166–178)

Castile remembers Remus as a sailor and foreigner who had been chained after a brawl at the Telha docks. Though outspoken at times, he never fully fit into Gregor’s company or the new unit before his death. (Chapter 180)

Appearance and personality

Remus has long red hair and is from Amphia. He is generally quiet and keeps to himself, but Castile remembers him as outspoken and notes his earlier involvement in a dockside brawl. (Chapters 113, 123, 180)

Magic and abilities

Remus serves as a legionnaire and participates in sparring, guard duty, and expedition work. No personal spellcasting or numeric combat score is established. (Chapters 123, 132, 142)
